In a moment of weakness, and those of you who have come to know my rantings in these fora might appreciate why I need a new thread for this, the significance of it, well...
sorry, but that's great news. i hope you enjoy your new machine, and in all honesty, the portable are one area where Apple is holding their own in price/performance.
Unfortunately for me I couldn't get a Superdrive version as there was no edu discount and it would have come to 3200, whereas my edu discount combo comes to 2400. Just too big of a gap, and it's going to be my writing/research/DTP/photoshop weapon, not DV anyway. I figure I can put the other 800 smackers to use on stuff like external HDD's, I'll be using my 17" CRT for dual display for now, and when DVD-multi reaches at least 4X I'll get one of those, I trust Apple will eventually resolve the iDVD issues (or someone will for them!)
Steve, you better not let me down, I do not part easily with my money, and won't do so again if I'm not completely satisfied.
I tell you, being affiliated with two universities is a good thing as my alma-mater doesn't have edu pricing yet they claim they won't be able to get it at edu price for 2-3 months, but we both know they want to sell as many as possible at the full price before they start offering edu. No problem guys. But I also know you're marking up M$'s campus license cause I've seen the per seat prices (about 30 bucks) and if you piss me off some more I'm going to write M$ a little letter about why they're charging us 120 per seat, pig fvckers. I'm sure both Apple and M$ will be interested in your edu-dealer practices. So I made a trip to my other edu dealer and put in an order, got my number and everything.
Quiet you! I have already told you I am upgrading my iMac.
Rants about price will not diminish untill affordable (not just Edu affordable, but affordable in general) prices abound AND desktop warriors get the machines they've long awaited. Any move to drive up prices will still be met the fury of a mac user scorned!

That's the difference, I had to find a big edu dealer. Pig fvcker university A, which is an edu dealer, wouldn't give me edu pricing on the 12 at all (but they could somehow take your order if you wanted to pay regular price) I don't get it: either you're too small a dealer to get the models right away, or you're not, apparently they're just to small a dealer to get edu pricing right away, yeah right. I'm not putting down even edu-discount money to get my machine 3 months later. I want it now, or in 2-6 weeks , which is still better than 8-12 weeks! But, if it could be avoided, I wanted to pay edu price, not full. Yes, it turns out you can use any edu store regardless of affiliation (thank God), but it turns out some have better deals than others. I'm getting 500 off now, the edu store I always used to deal with hardly ever gives more than 200, sometimes, on the very most expensive models, they give 300 (Canadian). They mark up the Campus licensing agreement too (by about 300%), which I strongly suspect they're not supposed to do.
My only problem is that (for Canada edu at least) you can't BTO anything or get "custom configs" that means no 60GB HDD or Superdrive for me. But, with a difference of 800CND I can live with it.

Enjoy the little guy. I'm getting the 17!
If I could find the money, I'd be in a similar boat now.

it's usually not as good as the really big schools get, but it's a few hundred off retail.
