It's not going to help. The Chinese market is affected by other factors than price.
Apple needs to have entry-level products at entry-level prices. I'll keep saying it — releasing a new Mac mini at *twice* the price of the original is not the trend we need to be seeing. The mini is supposed to be their entry-level offering, but is currently priced (and spec'ed) at anything but that. And then the same with iPhone.... ignore the SE, release an XR at the a higher price. It's a scary trend. Let's hope they have the wisdom to bring a new SE with the XR design language.
Remember Apple only want to sell to rich people, Tim Cook stated and I quote "we're not interested in the junk business". I hope one day he lives to regret saying that.
Where have you been the past 2 decades? Apple hasn't sold junk in decades.
Steve Jobs said the same thing but of course Jobs is seen as the messiah and Cook is the anti-Christ.
In last ten days I talked to 10 people holding an iPhone older than iPhone X, 8 of them showing their interest and tendency to get a SamSung Galaxy rather than the current of next version of iPhone. The common things they mentioned were about lack of excellence in software features, and disappointment in immature hardware related features.

In last month I talked to many many people at Gym,work and social gathering who were using mix of various generation iPhones including some with iPhone XS,XS MAX and XR. None of them on older iPhones said we want to upgrade to anything other than iPhone. Even in my family, all are on older gen iPhones and they will upgrade to newer iPhone as each one's need arise.
Obviously. What I find funny is that idiots act like THE ONLY OPTION is iPhone XS Max 256GB when the iPhone 8 and 7 are still on sale starting at $449. Most people are still on iPhone 6/6s so even a 7 would be an upgrade.
And if you wanna talk anecdotal I know 2 kids(bro and sis) who are "poor", who just upgraded from iPhone 6 to XR.
I guess we can put to bed the claims that the Xr not selling well as "fake news" to bed.
No. Last we knew XR was outselling the other models and we don't have a breakdown.
5c was also a "failure" even though it outsold all the knockoffs.
What I find funny is that if XR sells less than XS, XS is a "failure" but it XS happens to sell less than XR, XR is a "failure". Clickbaiters have infinite material!

The problem here is that you typically don't lower prices on something that's already selling well.
There seem to be multiple signs pointing to less than _expected_ iPhone sales...possibly on all models. But, yes, we won't know a) what the mix of sales is, or b) what their expectations were. But outside signs suggest they're not quite what they hoped for.
mikeybabes said: So apple I am sure pay suppliers at a fixed USD and not against the RMB exchange rate. Almost everyone works to the USD for purchasing.
And, the USA spends $trillions to keep it that way.
So Apple gives the pirates in China a break on their phones, but us loyal US folks still get the shaft on prices, eh? Shows how desperate Apple is in China since giving them access to all their users' data didn't work. /s
Don't think you need the /s there.

Just remember, there is a difference between junk and lower-priced. I think Steve understood that, while I'm not so certain Tim does.

True, but I hate this trend of selling older stuff to make the lower price-points. Given how fast the industry moves, you're basically spending a few $hundred less to chop off a couple years of longevity. What I'd much rather see, is just a lower end model with current tech where it counts (ie: lesser screen, lesser camera, drop some features, etc.). That's why the SE was great in that regard... though I'd ultimately like to see an SE and SE-Pro then, or an SE and SE-form-factor full-blown iPhone at different price points.

Yeah, Apple just seems to apply pie-chart thinking as a justification to get rid of the lower end models (and higher end when it comes to Macs).
