Please folks, it is a rumor board. Try to keep that in mind. Rumors are perfectly fine so long as they are factual in any way, or interesting to discuss. I really pity anyone who comes here to future hardware who wants to know what Apple will be shipping in a month.
(still rooting for glove though this won't happen anytime soon because Apple needs the cash that OS upgrades bring in)
Apple is trying to move away from always releasing products at MacWorld Expos.
Consequently, we should NO LONGER BE SURPRISED if there is not an upgrade/speedbump/revamp of the PowerMac/iMac/iBook/PowerBook at MWNY/MWSF/MYP/MYT.
Apple will probably release faster machines either quietly or at a special media event in August.
And why do you think that anybody who was currently testing machines would have any idea of when they would be released? Right, I forgot, engineers working on third-party test machines at outside companies are in regular meeting with Apple's sales and marketing people
P.S.- I just don't want to hear from canyon because I think she's hot. I would like to hear her response to all the .mac bitching and moaning.
Lemon Bon Bon
I would like to take this as an opportunity to salute all the pessimists in our audience (you know who you are) who predicted that Apple would release no new towers at MWNY.

Why, thank you! I'd like to thank the academy, my agent, God, Berry Gordy, Jr., Senator Fred Thompson, David Geffen and Buck Owens.
Just simple logic, that's all.

How many times am I going to have to say this?
There is NO Macworld in Paris, never has been, end of story.
Apple Expo People!
I'm going to have to decapitate the next person that claims there is a Macworld in paris.
http://www.insidemacgames.com/news/story.php?ArticleID=823
Of course, the official name *IS* Apple Expo - Paris, but since when have facts stopped anyone?
I think we should vote for who had the best rumors kinda like the old Gong Show ....
allenmcjones = 8
canyon 24 = 6
dorsal = 7
kormac = GONG!!! hahahahahaha

Unfortunately it's going to be at least 6 more months until the ideas they've given pan out....
Thanks.
And did Dorsal really really nail some specs down? I think he got close but I'm most likely wrong though as usually
But if I'm misrepresenting your view Moki, sorry.

Actually, Canyon24 was pretty right-on in some ways. She described iCal to the letter as well as some of the features of .mac. She overstated the significant of .mac based on what was shown, but I've got some insight on how .mac can develop, and we're really only seeing the beginning.
She missed on the PDA and the dv camera (which weren't confident predictions anyway) and really missed when stating that we would see PMacs at the Expo. But if we excuse the timing on that, here's her call on the specs:
The new powermacs will be G4 (1Ghz, 1.2Ghz, and 1.4Ghz, with the 867Mhz available for education cheap.) ALL will be available build to order DUAL processors. There have been some changes to the motherboard, including the bus(es). And of course the new case, as I have describe in another forum.
These aren't incompatible with Dorsal et al, but they certainly are more specific. I'm pretty sure that she's the real deal, and we'll know for sure in about a month. At the same time, I could probably know her name with no more than 3 phone calls, so let's all hope she still has a job.
OTOH, I, me, myself, accurately (nearly exactly) predicted QE months before it was ever mentioned. (A much more important technology central to OSX development for the next few years.) Pscates suggested the shape of the new iMac almost exactly, but never mocked it up. Dorsal might have been close to QS and Xserve, and Moki probably gets to hear stuff from time to time, but he ain't telling.
Allenmcjones, and Canyon24 too (probably) can join Kormac in that giant steaming pile of crap they've been dumping in here. F-them, f them all!

I've been saying the GUI should be based on OpenGL for at least a year now, I just haven't been on the board that long. I'm just annoyed that its taken Apple so long to actually do it.

Dorsal is slippery because he doesn't put a timeframe on things. The closest he's come is to say that "2002 is Apple's year" and gone on to talk about spiffy new prototype machines. Until the new PowerMacs are actually in the public eye we can't really say 100% that he's a pretender, and until they do show we can't say that he's for real either.
