    One good thing about subscription is I don't have to nag to my boss to pay for upgrade anymore. In the old day, the CS Suite upgrade is like $1000 plus.

    That was the theory behind the subscription model. Smaller upfront cost. For their company, it means a consistent revenue stream.

    I use Canvas Draw (Mac) and Canvas X (Windows) for most things. Export to AI files when I need to pass them on to a publisher. Surprising the article did not mention Canvas Draw at all, as Canvas was one of the original vector drawing programs for the Mac.

    When Adobe went to the subscription model they lost me. I'd been a big Adobe fan since Photoshop 2 and used to be an Adobe sysop on CIS. But the notion of putting all my master files up for ransom was repugnant. Stop paying and you lose access to your intellectual property (that is, the sometimes extremely complex means by which you may create a final image). I haven't upgraded since Master Collection CS6. I'd love to stay current, but I am not willing to put Adobe on the dole.

    As for Affinity, their apps are great and I have them, but I'll admit that making the big switch when there is a constant struggle to keep up with the workflow is a challenge. For virtually everything I do, CD6 does a great job, but if I had to switch, it would definitely by to Affinity.

    Subscription == extortion
    Good grief, no it is not. It's cheaper now than when I had to re-up my Master Collection license every couple years.

    FFS Inkscape get with the (literal) program and make a real app. The sort of people who do graphic design are not the sort of people who are comfortable with MacPorts and X11.

    Is Graphic still a active program? I see no activity on their FB account, and the software doesnt look to be updated. I wish there was a demo to try out there. Looks like it hasnt been updated since Jan 2018. I am looking at doing some technical drawings and looking for a good design program. Mostly wiring diagrams for audio visual systems and flowcharts.
