Apple releases fifth round of betas for iOS 13, iPadOS, tvOS 13
Apple has moved on to the fifth cycle of its milestone developer beta builds, providing new versions of iOS 13, iPadOS 13, and tvOS 13 for testing.
iOS 13's 'Dark Mode'
The newest builds can be downloaded via the Apple Developer Center for those enrolled into the test program, or via an over-the-air update on devices running the beta software. Public betas typically arrive within a few days of the developer versions, via the Apple Beta Software Program website.
The latest fifth batch of builds almost two weeks after the fourth betas were issued. Given the release schedule for iOS 12 last year, it is likely that Apple will shift towards weekly beta build releases for now, then accelerating to every few days towards the end of August in preparation for shipping this fall.
The fifth iOS 13 developer beta is build number 17A5547d. The latest iPadOS 13 beta is build 17A5547d. The fifth tvOS 13 beta is build number 17D5540d. At the time of writing, there are no fifth builds of watchOS 6 nor macOS 10.15 Catalina.
The third beta saw a variety of changes, including updates to Notes, Health, and Home, as well as the FaceTime Attention Correction feature. The fourth introduced smaller Home screen app menus, a Rearrange Apps option, alterations to accessories in Memoji, a bug fix, and other smaller tweaks.
Both AppleInsider and Apple itself strongly recommend users don't install the betas on to "mission-critical" or primary devices, as there is the remote possibility of data loss or other issues. Instead, testers should install betas onto secondary or non-essential devices, and to make sure there are sufficient backups of important data before updating.
