It can’t hurt to make the steams available from other locations. My only concern is with watching from YouTube is the incessant ads every few minutes. If that’s what going to happen with the live stream Apple should just make it available as a replay.
FWIW I don't remember the last time I saw a YouTube ad.
I see them so many times I lost count.  I always try to click off the ads.
I never get ads on YouTube.
Almost every YouTube video I watch has at least one ad right in the middle of the video. I tend to watch classical music performances and the ads come right in the middle of a movement. It even gives a countdown 5.4.3.2.....1 Ad. Then it’s always trying to get me to sign up for ad free content and I have to click “no thanks” to continue.

Weird. WTF wants to bother with YouTube when one can just watch it on the apple site?
There are countless TVs and media streaming appliances that have a YouTube app built-in.
And I hope Apple disables the comments for that event. Otherwise it will be inundated by haters, trolls, the disgruntled and be completely negative. That’s what YouTube comments are all about, negativity. The entire online universe is almost completely negative anyway about anything. Jesus Christ could put up a sermon on YouTube and it would be savaged.

“If it ever got to the levels of OTA TV I would stop using it (I rarely watch TV nowadays)."

YouTube has has way more adds than ota tv. Certainly in the UK. I wish YouTube was governed by the advertising standards board like regular TV is.

On YouTube I sometimes get an ad before a video plays, and lately, for some videos, I get an ad in the middle.

Spanish private sector freeview OTA broadcasts went crazy a few years back and since then have just got worse. To the point of breaking away for ads in the middle of sentences or even words. Madness and when there are no ads there are large overlays reminding us what's coming next or soon.

The only respite is the news and sports content.

    1) Maybe I’m missing it, but on the mobile website I’m not seeing comments enabled for any of their videos.

    2) Sure, but most of the world aren’t Christians and he was already murdered once for his thoughts so I think he’d be OK with a few trolls on social media.  😇

My content blocker has comment blocking enabled, so I don’t see comments on YouTube either. Perhaps that is your case as well.

I'm not running any (since Apple made changes to Safari) and I'm seeing "Comments are disabled for this video" across all the videos I trued for Apple's account.

I’ve never seen an ad in a YouTube live stream, and I don’t subscribe to anything. In the prerecorded stuff, sure, ads-a-plenty, but not in the streams.

Youtube is reliable and free. If they streamed through their site, they would have to pay for bandwidth. On the other hand, replay streaming uses CDN and cache and it's cheaper / more reliable.

Now you can watch it anywhere on almost any device, even if it is not a phone, or if you don't have an apple tv.

There’s a section at the bottom of the screen that you have to tap on to expand - it’s easy to miss if you don’t look for it. Judging by most it the comments on YouTube, it’s probably just as well if you miss it.
