What is the deal with Music? I thought that when they broke up iTunes to better serve the different media types, things should be faster and better? Not so. I know that my library is a bit larger than most (30 000 albums, mostly classical music), so a faster and better app than iTunes would have been much appreciated. Music is not that app. Music does not seem to be able to show me album covers. In iTunes all albums had cover art. In Music, maybe 30% have. 3 hours in, and less than half of the albumart is available. In iTunes I could select column view and click on genre, composer and artist to see a list of all works that matched that combination. This is not possible in Music. I have to search and remember all the search criteria instead of just clicking in the different columns. Much more tedious and much more difficult to find the things I'm looking for. Now if I want to find all the recordings I have of Das Rheingold by Wagner (9 complete recordings) I have to search for Wagner Rheingold, and I get a long list, not of the album, but of all the tracks on all albums, and without cover art for at least half of them, finding the right recording is a nightmare. In iTunes this was very simple, done by 3 mouseclicks. In Music it takes ages. When I search for Wagner Siegfried, I don't get the opera Siegfried by Richard Wagner, but a list of all the recordings I have by his son - Siegfried Wagner. Music is a mess!!!
And suddenly - after 8 hours - all the album covers suddenly appears... Well - one concern less. Give me back column view from iTunes and I won't complain any more. And I really need album covers in Songs-view!
Is it problematic to use Catalina and Mojave side by side on different Macs with the same Apple ID? I remember reading something about how iOS 13 updated Notes maybe and broke compatibility on Mac? I'd like to put Catalina on my MBP but stick with Mojave on my Mac Pro to keep using 32 bit apps.
The one I've seen so far is Reminders. It broke between iOS 13 and Mojave as well from what I read.
Only if you choose to upgrade to the new Reminders data format. You don’t have to, and you can keep it working with Mojave.

The way I understand it is you get to decide whether or not iOS 13 breaks compatibility with Mojave. The first time you open Reminders on your iDevice after updating to iOS 13 it will ask if you want to retain compatibility or activate new features. I don’t know if you can change your mind once you’ve made a choice.

Typically album art cover will need to be redownloaded in the background but since they are not priority, you will only see them after a few hours to a day depending how large is your library. 30,000 art covers will take a longer time to finish especially they are more things to sort out when first installing new OS.
I realize that, but according to Activity monitor there was no network activity from Music, and all the album covers had been imported manually so they were part of the iTunes library already. iTunes has never been able to properly find album covers for classical music CDs, so the covers had already been downloaded manually from the net and inserted in the iTunes library. If this means Music is actually able to find album covers for these CDs I am indeed impressed as iTunes has never been able to do that. My main problem with Music is the navigation problems though. Bring back column view from iTunes - a much better way to browse large collections.
Question: in the case of apps on my MacBook that won’t run in 64 bit, what happens when I upgrade to Catalina? Is there some sort of notification or do they just not exist any more?
They won't be removed, they just won't run (with notification). As a reminder, Apple has been actively warning developers of the 64-bit exclusive move for at least five years now (and talking about this move for another three at least) -- if your 32-bit app isn't compatible, it is either abandonware or you deliberately did not upgrade it.
I am again reminded that Apple does not give a crap about their customers. This update screwed me and this is not the first time Apple has smacked me in the face. Never again, and I will spread the word. Sure, I can revert back to Mojave if I want to go through a long and grueling process.
I am reading all of these negative comments, despite the author's praises, and I am reminded of some OS upgrades in the past. Some were relatively uneventful, and others turned out to create big regrets.
I think I'll wait. I have 3 external hard drives I use as backups, but they're older drives, still utilizing USB-2 and FW800. I'm running a 2017 iMac, so I have no desire to do something that would make these drives inaccessible. I'd have to access them through my PC, which I could do, but that would be a pain in the butt.
Also, I have several apps on this thing that I received warnings of future incompatibility for. So, I think I'm going to wait.

It is a hack-job, look below, it took me 10 minutes to gather these errors.
