How many people have here have done anything serious with the AR that's already here, use some app or game routinely ? Owns any AR headset?  If I had to guess that number would be in the low single digits in a poll..

IMHO its a waste of time and money, Sure Apple has that to burn, but I don't think anything that they might come up with will be used widely, so why do it? Unless its a very targeted market, which means the products will be very expensive. I do not think AR is the next big thing, and if Apple has data saying  it is, good for them, we'll see if it actually turns out that way in 3.5 years.
It all depends on field of view, how good the projection will be and how good the object recognition & occlusion will be. The eventual end point is you won’t need a “display” anymore. You just need a flat surface. You sit down at your desk at work, and computer displays will be projected into your eyes. It will appear as if you have a a 40” display in front of you, or two or three. You won’t need a keyboard or pointing device anymore, you’ll type on a projected keyboard on the table and a projected rectangle on the table surface will be the trackpad.

In the Expanse TV show, they have these fancy handhelds that have holograms projected on the sides from the device. The glasses can do sort of the same thing with your phone. Tracking information like sports scores, timers, messaging, video, music info, etc, can be projected. There are obvious solutions for navigation and language translation.

It’s going to have multiple cameras and sensors too. Not sure if people have gotten over the creep factor of always on video with people who wear these glasses. Might be we don’t care anymore, who knows.

In a highly uncharacteristic move... laser rage-finding...
LASER rage-finding will be so, so useful in an increasingly stressed and fractured world.

As populations age, the potential benefits of AR I believe cannot be overstated. It's likely that in many countries, older citizens will need to contribute more and more to the economic well-being of their societies and assistive technologies might well become key elements in permitting this. Apple is on the ball.

An Apple headset would be an incredible platform success.  MacOS would instantly become the gaming platform of choice, which would be a huge blow to Windows.  All those $$$ spent on high end gamer gear would be funneled to Apple...

Sounds a lot like those comments how audiophiles were going to toss their $50,000 systems for the HomePod...
