I hope they’ll finally realize iPadOS’ promise as a productivity replacement.
1. Full adaptivity for touchpad/mouse and keyboard controls, aka when mouse is connected a macOS interaction model versus a ‘finger simulation mode’. This means right-click for contextual menus and a recent text selection mode, amongst other tweaks. When not using a mouse it shouldn’t dilute/deteriorate iPadOS concept as a touch-first OS.
2. Better iPad concept/keyboard hardware with back lighting.
3. A solution for multiple split windows that isn’t as horrible as the current one. I still find it very confusing and slow to manage multiple windows.
4. The ability to connect the iPad to an external monitor and get the native resolution of the monitor supported for multiple windows.
5. Better / faster Files management power options for when used with a mouse.
I actually like the window management - it can’t do much, but it’s also simple and streamlined, which is kind of the iPad’s forte.
I couldn’t agree more with the file management comment. That’s one of the biggest things holding back iPadOS, IMO.
As far as mail goes, I haven’t had any issues with it beyond it just lacking some features that it should have. I agree - it could use a refresh.
If this rumor were to be true, with the emphasis on if, then I will be keeping my SE for even longer than I expected, because it's actually still running great and it's still plenty speedy and it still fits in my front pocket without me even noticing that it's there.
I remember all of the bogus false rumors about it not supporting iOS 13 and I was very happy when it was finally confirmed that it would indeed support 13.
If it were to support 14 also, that would be nothing short of amazing and a very nice surprise.
There was a rumour that this was going to be mostly a refinement update so keeping every device running iOS 13 getting this update would follow.
Yes, for the most part. iPad Air 2 (A8X/2GB) and iPad mini 4 (A8/2GB) are rumored to be dropped.
I have a mini 4, and was surprised it made the iOS 13 cut. It runs significantly slower on both iOS 12 and 13 than does my 6s (A9/2GB) so iOS 13 may be the end of the line for it. Not sure how the performance of the Air 2’s A8X compares with A9.
I'd put them as part of iPadOS at this point, not iOS. I'm not sure sure if it's general tech articles or if Apple is also still interchanging their OS names, but I've decided to mentally fork the OSes. If this mainly a maintenance update for iOS and they are dropping a couple iPads for iPadOS 14 then I'm expecting some major utility revisions with iPadOS.
No real surprise here. I expect that Apple will continue to support older hardware up until AI acceleration is mandatory. The cut off will then become machines with Neural Engine support.
I see this coming but I doubt it will happen in the next two years.
SE and 6s still supported is amazing of how Apple IOS(vs Android) cares about customers.
That's why I always find it amusing how Android fanboys like to bash Apple for making their phones prematurely obsolete. This is another reason why I feel like if an iPhone is more expensive than a comparable Android phone, say $100 or you pick the figure, the iPhone is still as good if not better deal since it's supported a lot longer. (And even if you don't want to keep your phone that long, you can get more by selling it to someone else who can be confident the phone will be supported for X number of years.)

I have a feeling that the full transition of iPad OS to where the iPad can be a genuine desktop/classic laptop replacement will take place over a couple of years. My gut feeling is part of the reason iOS 13 has been so buggy for so many people (I haven't had any problems with it) is because they're now making 2 somewhat different OS's. one for iPads and the other for iPhones, and this is probably harder to pull off than it seems. (I think the reason why iOS 11 had so many problems was because for the first time Apple was creating an iOS for two very different phones, the swipe gesture X and the remaining phones that had home buttons.)
I am hoping that my 2017 iMac will be the last desktop/laptop computer I own, and that an iPad will be able to replace it.
