The "x" brand is coming soon. Xserve is just the begining. Thats about all I can say. What I know at this point is there will be at least 2 more products with the x brand at this time.

This is not true, the only thing you have to go on
is that there is a name. At least my crazy cell phone thread had a little evidence.... powerMac and PowerBook are great names
It seems more and more these threads are about power - whereas the lack of knowledge about future chip speeds puts the AI reader in a position of powerlessness (however slight that position might be).
The false poster gains power (relative to these boards) in an equal amount to false repudiator/rumor-rejector. To claim a rumor is false implies an equivalency of knowledge to someone who posts a rumor as true. Within the limited range of future hardware possibilities (chip speeds 1 to 3 GHz, firewire 2 etc. & whatever) saying a rumor is false is the same as saying it is true. We might ask with the same sort of interest and zeal "How do you know the next PM will stink? What are your sources?".
That was deep. But it makes sense, I still hold Rok in semi-godliness ever since the amazing prediction of the new imac's design to have a base and be "semicircular". Of course I don't pretend to have insider info, I just make obscure guesses about the future .
This really isn't news. The machines tekserve is referring to won't replace the PowerMac line: they're likely to be new entries in Apple's rack server line. We know those are coming, because Steve said as much during the XServe unveiling.
[quote] Well, if I remeber correctly what Dorsal said before MWNY02, it was that July would bring disappointment, and August will make us happy.

Now it's true that I didn't read his thread from beginning to end but his title did clearly state that MWNY 02 was Apple's year...
who cares about the name, or the color or any of these other superficial issues. i just want a ****ing fast computer. i don't care if it's in a beige box.
took you long enough jd. i never thought i was going to see your telling of the doom apple and them not getting the 750 off till 2004.

JYD's post was entirely accurate. If the 7500 is indeed still "on the drawing board," we're not goint to see it in a machine until 2004. However, I think Tekmember wasn't choosing his words quite accurately and that the 7500 is indeed due "soon," which to me suggests within 6-9 months. That would agree with most of the other rumors I think.
While the starter of this thread probably has absolutely nothing in terms of info, I do think the whole "x" brand might have legs.
And while frankly, I'm getting tired of the whole letter branding, the "x" designation might be appropriate to distinguish the professional line from the consumer branded "i" products.
also the 7500 is coming soon .

Thank god for the return of the 7500. Now maybe they will fab some more of those 1MB L2 caches. Those suckers are hard to find! I also need another drive sled but dont want to $16US+Shipping for 2 of them.
The 7500 could be a G5 from Motorola. Maybe they came through with it in secrecy. If so, the idea of a G5 from IBM is wrong in assuming that Motorola could not produce an Apple G5 by now. If it's a G5, that is what really counts -- workstation computing power for the Mac. So this does fit the picture of what Apple needs in the way of hardware, now that they own high end video applications companies. I could see Steve calling such workstation class Macs the XMacs. All I want for XMas is an XMac. Do you think that would make it as a jingle?
To me an"Xserve" needs an "Xstation"- not an "Xmac."
It makes sense, at least to me, that servers and assorted hardware will be differentiated from stand alone Power Macs by NOT including "Mac" in their title.
Educational- eMac
Consumer- iBook,iMac, iPod,(eMac??)
Creative Professionals- PowerMac, PowerBook, Mac Server G4
Industrial High End- Xserve, Xstation
My bet is that August 13 will bring miniature Xstations with mobos like the Xserve and simply speed bumped Power Macs.

An Xmac for all of your Xfiles.
Damn, I miss the good old days of AI.
Just Damn.
'Mac 5'?
I mean...that's pretty fast...aint it?
lemon bon bon

Dude you totally sux! Why bother posting such drivel. Where the hell is Kormac and Dorsal. These wanna-bees are killing me.
Long live the true insiders!

Well, if I remeber correctly what Dorsal said before MWNY02, it was that July would bring disappointment, and August will make us happy.
So this could in fact fall in place for us.

Could "xMac" be the branding for Apple's much-speculated new, powerful, (and no doubt very expensive) workstation models, with a flavor of Power4/5?
And can Apple really afford to have yet another product line?
Not sure if "xMac" exactly rolls off the tongue (ex-Mac?) but anything Apple can do to improve the current situation is worth considering.

Everything is a guess until it ships. I quit.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeesh!
Yes Virginia, it only takes a few weeks to go from concept to store shelves with a new technology... and by the way, there really is a Santa Clause.
