That's great! Apple keeps knocking down barriers to the iPad becoming a "real" computer:
-- they strengthened the OS and separated it from iOS
-- they added a file system and enabled multiple windows for effective multi-tasking.
-- they added a great external keyboard
-- they added cursor and mouse control
And now, they are going after what may be the last remaining barrier: they're increasing screen size by converting bezels into screen real estate.
The future looks very bright for iPad! It can do all that Steve's original vision saw for it -- and now, increasingly, it is also incorporating traditional laptop functionality.
However, they still have no decent external monitor support (basically ‘mirroring’ instead of native monitor resolution), and dealing with files is terrible. It lacks the sophistication for productivity that macOS offers.
Multitasking is cumbersome and gesture heavy even with a mouse.
Yes they improved it a lot, but from all the Apple products I own, it’s the least useful one for anything serious, productivity wise (except drawing with the Apple pen).
I see "What's new in iMovie" and i click CONTINUE button and I think it will bring me to the details of this update. NO, IT DOESNT! It just opens my iMovie app. OK! I ask HELP about 5 new filters advertised as I have no idea WHERE to find them. HELP answers -'No results found". Is it a JOKE????
Let's take the latest update in iMovie. Intro to keyboard shortcuts in iMovie on Mac. There’s a link . If you think it will lead you to a list of shortcuts, you'll be wrong - shortcuts are NOWHERE to be found! your link brings me to your Support page.
Will the new models have microetched glass to improve glare, fingerprints and make the pencil feel more like it's on paper?
TouchID on power button seems a poor choice with a cover on the power button has to be the button least used on the device.
Yes, it’s very clumsy to have to grab the iPad like you want to hold it just to unlock it. The home button is brilliant in that regard. If this is true, they prioritized the consistency of gestures and a more modern design over unlock usability. Tough choice to make. Honestly, I would have expected FaceID to be so cheap to produce at scale by now, they would just go for that. Seems to lead to a much better and consistent user experience.
I will buy this in a heartbeat if my 9.7" IPad Pro bought ages ago wasn't still going strong! On a more serious note this leaves me with no incentive to go for the pro model. I wonder what compelling feature Apple will introduce in the next pro model. Or may be the Air is the best model for my use case.
True, that feature would be especially useful for the times we're living in now (requiring face mask) and other scenarios you might have your face covered like in extreme weather conditions.
Not sure what the use case is for using an iPad in Extreme Weather Conditions, but face masks obviously makes sense. I do remember a story a few days ago talking about Apple being send to make FaceID more usable with masks. Not sure how secure FaceID would be in that case.
That story was that if the iPhone detected a mask on your face, it would directly go to the "enter PIN" option, rather than try and fail FaceID. It wasn't about the iPhone unlocking with FaceID even if you wore a mask.
New iPad Air moves Touch ID to power button, has USB-C says leaker
Current iPad Air starts at $499.00.. Apple Pencil 2nd gen is $129.00?
That certainly isn't half the price?
Apple will probably drop the price of the 2nd gen pencil when this is released ... and then release a 3rd gen pencil to go with the new Mini LED iPad rumored for early next year.
Ok pedant,
28.646034288253235664282340273477837688 % of the price. You gotta admit the margins on these peripherals must be fantastic.
28% is much closer to 25%, not 50%. Don't have to get snarky just because someone called out your exaggeration.

Pedant? No. 129 is a fraction over 25% of 499. You made some shit up, and he called you out for it. Now you're being hyperbolic to CYA.
oh hey peeps, if you carry around your Pencil in a bag, have some sort of hard cap or protection for the damn thing. I don't know when/how it happened, but I pulled out my Pencil a couple months ago and found the tip slightly askew. New tip didn't help, the internal metal was bent. I'm not sure if it got dropped or sat on or what but it was ruined.
Weird. Mine was in a leather folio with my iPad & got run over by a truck. Still works. iPad was a different story.

I use my iPad for surfing and mail, Files is no replacement for the Finder and I would never accept using a closed system (App Store etc.) as my workhorse.

The iPad will never become a real computer until it can run ANY software, not just what's been approved by Apple.
For everyone's sake (including Apple's, though Cook is too stupid to understand it) let's hope Epic wins their suit.

I'm not 100% on this but that looks like it says "Apple Pencil Pro y Apple Pencil" — wish there was a clearer shot of this page.
