Waiting for a full-on Dick Tracy phone with high speed WiFi hotspot For my iPad Pro. Otherwise no use for a smartphone or Apple Watch.
I would think the iPad, with it's much larger battery, and existing ability to make a hot-spot... would be the way you'd want to do that. Actually, on that- I did have my Watch join a hotspot my iPad mini 4 created after I turned on some data for a week. Tragically though, the connection was akin to any old laptop linking up, and after the Watch didn't access the wifi for a while, the connection broke down (and fell back onto the cellular my Series 3 also had, left the iPhone at home for this experiment). But Apple should really break down these arbitrary divisions between iPhones and iPads (and Macs soon too). It'd be nice to be able to hike about with a decent iPad in your kit, but no phone so as to reduce the temptation to check in with the never ending info-hose we're all addicted too– but then critically, have the Watch act just like it would with an iPhone with that fancy bluetooth+wifi stuff that goes on.
An iPad that could run both iOS and MacOS apps would be a killer product. Perhaps this is why they split iPad OS from iOS.
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some Silicon MacBook Pros with fancy flippy touch screens (you know they won't just slap a touchscreen on a laptop), what with them being able to run all the iOS and iPadOS apps natively (and Big Sur being obviously touch friendy). Which would make sense. Get a MacBook Pro if you need the most power, and can run all the Apple things, and occasionally flip the screen and use it as a heavy iPad. Get an iPad if you want the most flexibility/portability.
it doesn’t fit the “classes” for Apple products. Either that or Apple needs to launch an iPhone Air and iPod Air
I’m ready for an iPhone Air. I still miss the slimness and the lightness of my iPhone 6. They have been slowly getting thicker and bulkier ever since, despite the courageous sacrifice of the headphone jack.
I’m also a fan of of the rounded back of the iPad Pro from a few years ago—it feels good in the hands. But Apple seems to alternate between the flat and the rounded edges, so I imagine they’ll be back again.

You know what I REALLY, REALLY, ,REALLY wanted from Apple related to this?
Bring back iPhone 1 (yes 1) screen size, without the black "chins". That was the most beautiful design in my opinion and, the most perfect size. I don't want bigger for my phone, but smaller. The smallest it can get. If I want bigger, I'll use my iPad (well, when I can finally purchase a Pro one).
I wish it was at least an option on the iPhone line. But money seems to talk stronger at Apple now. not the tools us, their loyal and biggest fans want. I really thought Apple was above being "all about money" when I moved from PCs to Apple almost 20 years ago. It was so refreshing and that what made me fall in love with the company.
When they started to axing the Apple Server and the Airport line, it's clear that doesn't apply to them anymore. Instead of improving those tools that we still need (make server + power efficient, cloud capable and Apple silicon compatible) and the make the Airport fastest wireless network available (aren't we supposed to be moving to a wire free environment, Apple? Sure, where's your solutions for that? What, third party products? Essh), they decided to remove them because they didn't bring enough money, even though I'm sure it was enough to cover manufacturing and development of every single one of them.
Ugh pardon me. there's so much more to say but I guess this is not the place.
If true, this would, I would think, still have an A12 or 13, as I can’t imagine a 14 in anything before iPhone 12.
Might be in the minority here, but I just cannot get into the pro design. Prefer my iPad Air 3 look, with traditional home button.
I agree. I don’t see an iPad with an A14 being released before a phone with it, let alone an Air model.
I also prefer the TouchID button and the thinner, the better. Those new Pro’s with the squared off edges look thick. Maybe it’s just the photos, who knows. I finally upgraded my 2014 iPad Air 2 (which I still love) with a 2017 10.5” Pro (it was brand new off eBay still factory sealed) I stuck with the gold cause it’s just so beautiful. I figure this will let me enjoy the design that I love a little longer before being forced into a FaceID equipped iPad. Hopefully by then, they’ll have that in-display TouchID we keep getting teased with.
I did some research for a new model and came up with the 2017 Pro because of the home button, 4 speakers instead of two, faster processor and gpu, 10.5” screen which allows for a full size keyboard yet it’s not the size of a legal pad like the new ones, 120Hz ProMotion display, 512GB capacity and iPhone 7 camera system with a flash and its optical image stabilization. For my money, the 2017 Pro is the perfect design with the perfect features. And to still be able to find a brand new one that’s never been opened just sealed the deal.
Going back to screen sizes, why are there so many now? And they’re doing it with the phones now, too. What happened to simplicity at Apple? It’s 1990 all over again with their bloated lineup. My wife bought the very first iPad Pro, the 12” one...the thing was massive! Bulky and heavy. She returned it and went back to her Air 2. Ever since then, we stay away from those. It’s supposed to be an iPad, not a laptop. (Miss Steve and Jony) This 10.5” one is the perfect size though. Bigger screen yet damn near the same physical size as an Air 2.
The two things I’m most concerned about when I eventually get a new iPad Pro will be the loss of a functioning 1/8” audio jack connection and no Home button. Both are critical to workflow and usability for me.
You’ll learn. Learning and adapting to change is what humans excel at.
It’s not a matter of “learning” anything. It’s a matter of production efficiency. I have an iPhone 11 Pro and have not used it even once to listen to audio with headphones because of the lack of a standard 1/8” jack. There are standards in other industries one cannot simply wish away as Apple seems to imagine at times.
