The 'Hazardous Material' of these headphones is the ridiculous price and ugly appearance.

They're not even expensive WTF are you talking about?

Apple should switch to contracting Amazon for deliveries.

Not for free. I'd tell them to stop selling their iPad knockoffs and fully support iPad instead and they get full Apple deliveries. They'd both make more money in the long run.
Amazon already sells as many iPads as they can or want to, there's literally no benefit to them stopping selling other brands' tablets.

Y'all know that Apple already has infrastructure in place to deliver straight from China to your doorstep? Why the hell would they want to ship inventory to Amazon's distribution centers and add another level (a rival at that) to their logistics chain? Most of Amazon's deliveries are handled by UPS/USPS anyway. It makes zero sense on every level.

If it contains lithium batteries, those must typically be shipped by ground transport. This might be what this is about.
Wrong. How do you think iPhones get here from China?

Lithium batteries that are part of electronics equipment are permitted on aircraft.

You are not entirely correct because there are very strict requirements that must be met to transport items with lithium ion batteries, especially as a shipment.  And he is correct, typically within the United States, items with Lithium Ion batteries are shipped by Ground.
No one is arguing that there aren’t regulations governing hazardous materials such as lithium batteries. But they are shipped in the US by air. As I said, my Macbook Pro was shipped by air until it reached Kentucky, then was transferred to truck for more local deliveries.

Folks, there's a difference between "my one tiny battery in a device in my bag", and whole pallets with a gazillion of efficiently packed devices with batteries in them.

In most cases everything is absolutely fine, but the laws and regulations are in place to handle that one unlikely event where everything isn't ok; and the difference here could be the difference between a few highly paid specialists potentially risking their lives, and a couple of hundred civilians getting roasted at a high altitude before the airplane hits a major city.

Sometimes it really is as simple as the right/wrong sticker/code indicating whether or not a pallet can be transported using what type of vehicles, if it can be near public transportations, and what routes must be taken.

Having your obviously air travel safe headphones returned might seem silly to an individual; but without the proper documentation those pallets simply haven't been cleared by the correct professionals to potentially risk people's lives, and we really don't want such clearances to be dealt with by some stressed underpaid worker that fears being fired if they cause a delay.

The packages tendered to UPS, containing Apple AirPods Max, were incorrectly labeled.  For the safety of our employees and the community, all shipments containing potentially hazardous materials must follow specific guidelines. We have followed up to ensure proper labelling.

They should use USPS. Order one receive three.
UPS actually does already sub-contract out to USPS for some of its deliveries. I don't know the criteria but have had many UPS packages over the past couple years come from my carriers. And I'm not in a rural area.
USPS just handles the "last mile". They do it for Fedex as well. I'm actually a big fan of USPS prices and delivery service. But actually going to a post office? Mmm no thanks.

Well, since ups told me they lost my package Tuesday, and said to call Apple Wednesday, and tell them that, I called Apple yesterday.

the guy I spoke to at Apple told me they had an experienced team for this. They would open an investigation today. Most likely I will get an e-mail in a few days with a new tracking number, because they would put me at the front of the line, and I “should” get it in a week. Truthfully, I’m ok with that, but not really satisfied. It seems as though they want to do at least a basic investigation first. I think they should find one and overnight it. What happens between Apple and ups shouldn’t be my problem. Insurance will cover it for both companies. But I decided to not push that.

I did ask a couple of questions though. I always get AppleCare first mobile products. I asked how they would work this as that was tied to my computer. He said they would issue another one for this computer. I also asked questions I knew he would really want to answer, but if you don’t ask, you’ll never know, right?

so I asked if they could track where that computer was if someone turns it on and tries an online registration. He was cagey, and just said it was a privacy issue for me, which made no sense, and I told him so. Anyway, he said that they have ways of checking. Whatever.

I just hope this one gets here quickly. I’m now officially tired of waiting.

I had a bad experience with a pre-order with Apple before (not as bad as yours, Mel) and I’ve made it my personal policy now that if I can’t buy it in the Apple Store either I won’t buy it or I’ll try another place. Pre-orders with Apple usually end up being slower than if you buy in store. It’s ridiculous, but seems to happen again and again.

It’s true that they’re usually slower. But we had an experience about three years ago that was wild. I ordered a new 27” iMac for my wife middle of the evening Sunday, and it arrived 8:15am Monday morning.

Supposed to be arriving today. But then, it was supposed to arrive yesterday. Well, my TB dock for it is supposed to arrive today too.

Finally! It came about a half hour ago along with the TB dock I ordered from owc. Doesn’t want to find other computers on the network, which is strange, even when I typed the IP address in. Well, I really didn’t want to download most of the 500GB from my startup drive anyway.
