After seeing the 7 Series and now seeing this car I have completely lost any desire to own a new BMW. These bimmers are flat out ugly. I'm glad I already picked the Saab Aero Wagon as my car to lust for.
BMW was kind enough to post a picture with an example of the each of the previous generations of the 5-series. I already miss the last one.
Yes i miss the fourth generation of the 5 series too.
New you are right the last generation is a bad ripof of the Audi (ripof because it's copy the ratio between the high of the metallic part and the windows part. Both have a high belt)
The fourth gen 5 is nothing to be proud of. It doesnt have the poise of the earlier three. Looks like the beady-eyed Canadian clone. At least the new one takes some bold cues, though it still sucks.
All of those lines just point in the wrong direction. It's an Audi that's been DNA-spliced with a Lexus and then handed over to the styling geniuses at Hyundai to finish.
This, folks, is the Kia-fication of BMW. Thank you, Chris Bangle, for keeping the resale value of 4th generation 5-Series' high.

Allah yustur! That thing is an abomination.
How can they replace a balanced and worthy Fünfer with that?
Finis Bavariae.

I think Audi's are the best looking cars today. And from the looks of it, BMW thinks so too.
I'm actually curious to see how Audi can top the new A4 with a coupe or even the new A6.
