I am saving for a 17" powerbook, and I would hate that to happen... unlucky.
a few notes for future reference:-
1.) There must be a security setting that we (you, cos I still saving ) can enable to require a password when you bring the PB out of sleep/hibernation?
2.) The inbuilt nic in the PB will have a unique number. As mentioned by someone else this might be on the box. If you ask very nicely you might be able to get the local ISP's to track this number (i think that should be possible). Although as far as they are concerned it might be a lot of work for a "measily" pb. (measily to them not you! )
3.) 90% of theft is oportunistic. I hope you have learned not to leave things liying round... even for a second.
Yeah, I tend to take my PB with me to the bathroom.
Anyway, if you can get the MACs off of it and then get authorities to report usages of these MACs, you may be able to do something about it.
They'll basically have to replace the hard disk to sell it, though, so don't count on getting your data back. Furthermore, i wouldn't count on getting your mac back. but i'd still try to report the MACs. at least to local ISPs.

how about the MAC of the Airportcard. I know I have that. Can it be tracked?

Certainly, but you're not going to be able to get local cafes te check their logs unless you're really convincing. In other words, unless you're girlfriend's father owns the gcafe or something. If you give Apple the serial # I bet they can get the MAC for en0, and perhaps some identifier for the modem if there is one.
