Apple has not been the low bidder/product ever. My 1990 vintage IIfx with the Motorola 68040 cost over $10,000 that year with a 80 MB hard drive, max emory, fancy graphics card and 21" color monitor. That was the Apple Power house then.

Laptop top models hit the $3,000 point for many years.

My 2019 16" Mac Book Pro with fastest processor and max graphics, 64 GB memory and a 8TB SSD hit about $6,500. Not a bargain but should be viable for many years.

The M1 mini will be upgraded to a second generation very soon. If it were to support more than one screen, have more than 32GB of ram, at least 8TB SSD as an option plus four generation 3 USB-C it could become the Mini Mac Pro mentioned as vaporware recently. That would be a viable upgrade to my aging 2013 Mac Pro with 6 cores, 128GB of Ram and a 2TB SSD.

Cook is not the huckster salesman like Jobs, but has at the helm guiding a huge machine requiring parts with lead times way into the future and assembling a very competent work force.

Cook is the man for the time.

It should have been home robots based on the technology Apple created to operate its automated factories all over the world ... but Apple did none of that. Cook is an amazing CEO. He has consistently created excellent products with amazing build quality and design containing some of the latest silicon on the market and got it produced in sufficient quantities to satisfy the market and released them on time year after year. Unfortunately he never had the kind of vision for the future that Steve Jobs did. Cook never disrupted the market the way Jobs did routinely. The lack of a $300 Mac Nano which would have moved Apple's 8% computer market share to 25% is the clearest evidence of this fact.
Unadulterated horse shit as usual. Apple doesn’t operate their own factories. Are you talking about the ones Jobs tried building in the 80s?? Explain how anyone needs a *checks notes* automated assembly robot in their home. Oh you meant some other fantasy helper robot product that doesn’t exist outside the Jetsons. Yes, why didn’t Cook invent that and also a cheap headless Mac with low profit margins that almost nobody is asking for but would magically triple the Mac’s market share? Also, pretending like they didn’t disrupt the watch market when they’re eating everyone’s lunch is ridiculous. I’m glad you’re not in charge.

Yet the AppleTV sells for $199 with an A12 and 64Gb of could run a desktop OS somewhere between Mac and iOS and the product has all the hardware to run what would be a pretty solid experience in that market range.  iPad with keyboard and same processor sells under $500.
Tim Cook is certainly smart enough to fire you on the spot if you ever got close enough to him to pitch this ridiculous idea. You want to undercut their excellent products with a $200 “pretty solid experience” that underperforms, has no meaningful profit margin, still requires hundreds in peripherals to become usable, and again, nobody is asking for. Most people buy MacBooks and iMacs. The mini is already super niche as far as demand goes and relatively cheap at the lowest possible price they want to hit with the Mac lineup. Your imaginary product is a loser.
This is why it surprises me we never saw iCloud develop into a standalone experience and platform. Sure wouldn't be full MacOS but could be the Desktop like experience that would serve the market a $500 computer would be aimed at. It would be a cross-over that would mean iPads pulled into a second screen could offer many customers more computing options than they need. Could be a managed Mac add subscription service to it that like-new windows365.
Have you operated a Mac through screen sharing on an iPad? It’s not a very pleasant experience and almost nobody needs to do that. That, and that they’re in the business of selling you the actual Mac, and there are third parties running racks of minis for you to rent if you want this for some reason.

Everyone tripping over themselves to demonstrate why they’re unqualified to lead Apple in here for some bizarre reason.

One more big product category? Where was his first?  Nada, nothing, zip, zilch. I just hope whoever succeeds this coook, is someone who actually knows, uses,  Apple products, to the point they have things created out of necessity. Kinda like Jobs, and the creation of keynote for keynotes.  Think on that one.
PowerPoint has existed since 1987. Keynote is your example of groundbreaking Apple products?

Cook only made two mistakes, namely:

    1. letting Jony Ives take ‘minimalism’ too far at Apple, which resulted in the ridiculous buttery keyboard and the removal of essential ports from Macbooks.

    2. Allowing the CSAM privacy backdoor on the iPhone, which contradicts Apple’s entire commitment to privacy.

I also agree Cook should exit now. He has been an excellent CEO if all you care about maximizing shareholder value. (My 401k thanks you Mr. Cook!) He's also done a great job of safeguarding Apple's future by skillfully milking every dollar he can out of the iPod and now iPhone product lines.

As a visionary who has continued trying to 'kick a dent in the universe' I would say he's been a complete failure. There hasn't been anything really groundbreaking under his tenure. I agree with the list above---

#1 Jony Ive should have been reigned in way more but obviously everyone including Cook was too scared to say no to him.
#2 This CSAM issue is a public relations disaster and they should just come out and say sorry,---we overstepped. You can't use 'PRIVACY' as a major selling point to your product and out of the other side of your mouth say, PRIVACY from everyone except us who will scan through and review anything personal you try to use on our product.

To this list I would also add:
#3 Horrible decisions on anything entertainment related. They should have bought Netflix, but didn't. They should have bought Hulu, but didn't. They should have bought MGM, but didn't. Because Cook says Apple believes its a better value to create our own content. Meanwhile, there is not enough content available to make them a major player and they won't ever be considered one because Cook keeps passing on anything he doesn't see 'fitting the Apple brand'
#4 Not making any really risky moves and only committing to things halfway. Apple Arcade, Apple Health, Apple Home, Apple TV and worst of all the HomePod..all of these things all start out with a bang and go.....nowhere. Meanwhile Apple sits on billions that could have made any of these categories into something truly revolutionary across the industry but instead they all seem to be whatever Apple calls the AppleTV...'an interesting experiment'
#5 Jimmy Iovine/Dr Dre/Beats - A billion dollars wasted....not sure what they got out of that deal in hindsight....shitty headphones with way too much bass?
#6 ITunes and Apple Music - Apple's biggest link to its young customer base seems to survive by luck...why is iTunes lobotomized to cater to the streaming community? What about the billions of us who bought songs for 99 cents? Why is Apple Music so annoying to set up?

As a 'gay' hero, not really. He was always very closeted and only came out because it no longer mattered anymore. Even today has he EVER been seen with a partner? The only reason we know he is gay is because he says he is. His only real value to the gay community is as an example to show, yes, even gay people can be super successful running a company and make billions of dollars. That's still something but he could certainly have done much more.

For his replacement, personally I'm hoping for Craig Federighi who at least seems like he has some cool ideas in his head. Not sure how hed do running Apple but at least he's a creative type.

Everyone is using this quote out of context. Apple had just launched the MacBook Air in January 2008 for $1800. That same year, on a quarterly earnings call, Jobs was asked by some dumbass financial analyst why Apple didn't make a sub-$500 netbook because literally everyone else was making them. Turns out those netbooks were very slow and shitty, and Apple was clearly more focused on delivering a premium albeit expensive high end compact laptop that was nothing like those crappy netbooks. They wouldn't release the iPad for two more years at which point they pretty much demolished the netbook market with a better user experience. Even though Jobs was certainly aware they'd do so in the future, he sure wasn't referring to the upcoming iPad as a piece of junk, he was referring to netbooks because that was literally what he was asked about.

I still have yet to see a reasonable explanation as to why they should have done this, or that they absolutely must become a "major player" instantly in streaming content. Meanwhile, their original content has been doing extremely well and cleaning up in awards.

Weird you don't make the Beats and Apple Music connection, but that's literally what they bought. One of the most popular headphones brands was just a bonus. As has been clearly documented many times in the past, that headphone business paid for the acquisition and beyond already. I have zero problems with my fairly massive iTunes Library and its integration with Apple Music, which for the most part works just fine for me. Sounds like you have some user error issues to contend with.

Why the strange obsession with market share? Lose money on every product sold just to say you have 25%, good thing you aren’t in charge.

Say what you mean, or else people will imagine what you mean, and it won't be complimentary.  I'm sure there are alternative words available that are equally descriptive but eschew obscenity, if that's really your concern.

If its about maximizing shareholder value then I doubt that's being achieved. A couple shows winning awards means nothing if nobody is watching. Without viewership Apple will eventually shut this down. Meanwhile they have passed on a ton of great shows. My problem is iTunes used to be easier to use to listen to music files I already owned. You can still do it but now the app is geared more toward pushing you to listen to Apple Music or one of their curated music streaming channels. If you aren't a subscriber Apple Music is not an enjoyable experience. I understand they want to make money but when you are a long time customer you remember vividly the things they take away that used to be provided for free

Don't be ridiculous, Im not saying that. I'm saying this gay man has no problem committing Apple and its thousands of employees to adopt his stance on gay rights. That's a pretty big political move. I'm sure there more than a few Apple employees who don't agree with this. But Cook thinks its the right thing to do so Apple has to follow. If he can do that much he can certainly be more proud of what being gay has meant in his life. In every interview I've read where he addresses this, he barely talks about it.

There is no "someone" looking at their personal photos to review. You literally don't understand the technology and how it works.

The "family friendly" shit is a myth. Go watch the See season 2 premiere, it's fucking brutally violent, and awesome. They're rapidly growing their collection of great programming across the entire spectrum of programming. Buying a pile of someone else's content to expand viewership is clearly not their goal, or they would've done just that.

You can literally disable Apple Music in the preferences. I have absolutely no more of a problem listening to my massive iTunes Library than I did before Music existed. It's all there and works nearly exactly the same. You're literally doing it wrong and calling Cook to be fired for it.

    wow....you guys are amazing.

I've been using Macs since 1985, own stock and considered myself to be an Apple fanboy. But you guys take it to another level!

Excuse me for criticizing our God, Tim Cook! Apparently you aren't allowed to say ANYTHING critical of Apple. I realize now that this site is just for people to come and blindly worship. I'll go kill myself now.
Criticize all you want. There are countless things you can point at with Apple (CSAM, most recently), but don’t post lies.
