When did he say that Hillary Clinton was wonderful? He only called Dole a bitch... didn't say anything the other way.

I don't like either one, personally. Hillary scares me. Dole? *shudder* Anyone who wants to raise the drinking age yet again needs to have their head examined. 21 is plenty high... 19 would make more sense (18 wouldn't be great because then you'd have high school students walking around the halls with their hooch). I believe the drinking age went to 19 in a number of states... but I have no idea why it was then raised again. It was explained to me a while ago but I don't remember.

The fact that you have to qualify it with "well, maybe Ms. Clinton's been picked on by you Republican meanies more..." kinda says it.

I believe there are double standards, just not in the example you provided, and probably not in the general direction that you see them. I honestly, truly, hand-over-my-heart believe that it's more acceptable to criticize Hillary Clinton than Liz Dole. Have you seen all the books that are best-sellers about how evil Hillary is? How come people don't call Dole a bitch more often? Or Laura Bush? They've both been in public life for a long time.

But about Liz, I have noticed a smile in her eyes, a skip in her step, ever since Bob got his E. D. treated.

be warned that i'm underage so my opinion is skewed:

the drinking age and the driving age should be switched (or at least the drinking age lower) there are way more deaths from bad teenage driving, than teenage drinking. Its so silly that they withold the right to drink till after some one is an adult, they can vote, buy cigarettes and porn.

Its not like it keeps kids from drinking, and its not hard to climb in through the windows of bars or buy stuff from old ladys working in gas stations. oh well, as i said it doesnt make a difference so i dont really care.

    You make a solid argument.

Something really needs to be done about teenagers driving. But you can't just say "no license until 21" because this is a driving country, it really is a necessity in many areas.

I think we need tougher driver's ed and restrictions on teen drivers.

Alcohol should be legal at 18. As should "soft" drugs.

Just to come back to this.

    For me it's two things.

These young people sacrifice everything and yet they don't have full rights.

They have the responsibility to do all that they do and yet we don't trust them with a beer.

Now in the military you have tremendous responsibility but unlike the real world you also have tremendous accountability. Maybe that's the real difference?

They could altertantively raise the enlistment age to 21. That would even things out nicely for you.

Actually, seeing the way most teens who do drink, actually drink, I think 21 is just fine.

If the US/Canada (where it's 19 BTW) had a better culture around alcohol, then I could see lowering it, even as low as 16, but the average NA teen is an idiot and shouldn't be anywhere near a bar. When I was in Europe, the attitudes were completely different, even 14 and 15 year olds could get a beer at the local bar/cafe. The difference there was that many of these small town establishments didn't segregate by age groups, families drank together and children learned to drink responsibly from a very early age. I remember drinking at the table with my parents.

Some teens learn moderation, American (and Canadian) teens, overwhelmingly, do not.

Not many do, but because its illegal, whenever teens can get their hands on anything, they lose all intelligence, and get really messed up. If there were a calmer feeling around it (ie: you dont have pay a ton of money if you get caught) there would be less alcohol abuse and more alcohol use.

its not actually a ton of money. its more like 30 or fifty bucks (atleast in nys). i've been nabbed on a couple of occassions. strangely enough, the judges never even asked my age, and i ended up with the same kind of fines that a 21+'er would've gotten. my first time i was around 14, and i doubt i could really pass for 21 in a well lit courtroom.
