Love the physical design of the lightning plug, it’s simplicity and better robustness, than USB-C. I wish USB-C would have a lightning plug. ;)

But when iPhone switches to USB-C, and if all other things as well, I um upgrading in my household 2 iPhones, 2 AirPods Pro, 1 AirPod Max, 1 or 2 Power Banks.

Wait til the EU bureaucrats realize they should also mandate all USB-C cords/adapters to be black so as to not confuse anyone.  Or at the very least, issue a 53 page regulation on what hue of white is allowed.
What is wrong with USB-C? I don’t think there is anything wrong with it.
Nothing wrong with it. It’s the idea of forcing companies to use a specific type whether they want to or not
Yes, standardization has been a disaster for electrical outlets, power cords, telephone jacks, car tires, railway tracks, etc., etc.     /s
    Ridiculous comparison.
First, what standardization of power cords is there?!
Second, anything relying on traditional telephone jacks now are pretty much antiques. No new construction includes them.
What standardization is there for car tires? Other than they are round, which is pretty much the only design that works. You know, physics and all. There are different sizes, capabilities, specifications.
Third, electrical outlets and railroad tracks are not exactly high-tech, evolving technology.

So now, the EU bureaucrats think that USB C is the be all and end all of connectors, it will be a generation or two before anything can be upgraded. Will you ever see a USB F? Nope, because now it will require legislation to actually evolve.

Good thing the EU didn't exist in the 80's or we'd all be stuck still using 5" floppy disks.

Let's get to D before we start talking about F, ok?  And there is nothing stopping an innovative company creating a phone with a better connector than USB-C.  They just can't sell it in the EU.

The USB committees are also not solely focussed on smartphones.  If a new standard port is suggested, then there is a world of devices that it can be included on.

Not to mention that the prevailing opinion around here seems to be that everything will be going wireless anyway, so ports are all but done with.

Once upon a time, the Lightning connector was a good, "think different" idea. No longer. It is painfully slow compared to more recent USB-C protocols, which is immediately obvious if you try moving any large video or audio files to/from iPhone. Even Apple knows this, and while I can understand (sort of) taking longer to make the switch for a product as key to revenue as iPhone, it's inexplicable to have not made the switch on products like AirPods Max and even the keyboards and mice shipping with the latest desktops, like my iMac 24" from just last year. This guarantees I'll need a lighting cable or adaptor around for the life of the machine, which could easily be the next 6 or 7 years.

I -- for one -- am looking forward to iPhone adopting the USB-C connector. My iPad mini (6th generation) already has this as well as my past two notebook computers (Apple MacBook and Windows PC ultrabook).

I'm also hoping for a USB-C AirPods Pro charging case so I can ditch the Lightning cable altogether when I travel.

If and when they make the Magic Mouse USB-C...and you know what I'm going to say here...please please please move the port away from the bottom!
