I don't think it will be about the 970! It's probably about Final Cut Pro 4 and integration with Panasonic's new AG-DV100 and Panasonic's integration of Firewire800 into it's DVCPRO50 line of cameras and decks.

It 's about software. A press release and invite was issued two weeks ago about this. Not new. No hardware to be announced by Apple.

SWEETNESS:::: Hopefully something is going to happen.... I e-mailed that Jerry Hsu dude just now:

    "Mr.Hsu,

My friends and I were wondering what is going to be announced during the press conference today, thank you. I understand that you are probably not allowed to tell me, but if you want to, that would much obliged on my part towards yours.

    Sincerely,."

Apple already announced in a press release that "software solutions" for video would be the topic of discussion.

According to this article at MacCentral, the press conference invitation says:

    Quote:

"Please join Apple for a press conference at NAB 2003 to learn about Apple's strategic direction for digital video production technologies," the invitation reads.

But that article doesn't mention what time the press conference will be held. I assume that's the same one.

Apple also has this link on apple.com, but it looks like it's something different from the press conference. It appears to be open to general audiences.

    Quote:

Please join us for an insider's view of Apple's strategic direction for digital video production technologies.

This exclusive event will feature presentations by Apple executives, including:

    - John Brandon, VP, the Americas and Asia Pacific

    - Tim Cook, Executive VP, Worldwide Sales and Operations

    - Phil Schiller, Senior VP, Worldwide Product Marketing

    A reception will follow.

Space is limited for this special invitation only event.

Registration will close April 1, 2003.

And that starts at 3 PM Pacific, whereas the press conference starts at noon. That's quite a few hours of talking today by Apple.

This is what ThinkSecret had to say a few weeks ago about this event today:

    Quote:

The possibility of an announcement at NAB appears to be even more likely in light of the press conference Apple is scheduling there, where it plans to unveil its "strategic direction for digital video product technologies," according to an invitation sent to a number of news organizations.

Sources also raised the possibility that FCP 4 could ship alongside DVD Studio Pro 2, featuring tighter integration between the two pro apps. While unconfirmed, there are other indications that this could indeed happen: The Sunday following NAB, Apple will hold an invitation-only event at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, targeted at users of FCP and DVDSP. One source also indicated that Apple's compositing software, Shake, could play a role.

Additionally, some Apple representatives are telling customers that NAB will be the stage for some significant announcements from Apple, going beyond just upgrades to FCP and DVDSP.

What if Apple were to introduce a "Final Cut Studio Pro" of sorts- a complete product that included both DVD studio pro and final cut pro in one product and sold it for like $1500.

This would seperate FCP from FCE further. Also you could get FCP4 or DVDSP 2 sold seperatly?

I think Apple might just lower the price of DVDSP to $500-600 anyways. That makes the most sense.

FCE and FCP already have enough seperation. I do expect FCP4 to pull away but the Tape Logging and Batch Capturing of clips is worth the upgrade alone to anyone who will be editing alot of video.

You're right, I over did it. BUT why don't people believe what is written by Apple and start posting outlandish wishes and stuff? Just asking.

Is there any website that is covering the press conference or NAB in general? It seems strange to have a press conference on Sunday when most media outlets and websites aren't updated with buisness news.

So is anyone actually going to be there?

It would be nice to have a minute by minute update of what is going on. Just incase something really important does happen. I would assume that apple will have something on the homepage after the event, but I want to know NOW!!!!!!!
