Compressor, a new batch transcoding tool that comes bundled with both DVD Studio Pro 2 and Final Cut Pro 4, lets users batch and export directly to multiple formats including MPEG-2 for DVD, MPEG-4 for streaming media or any supported QuickTime® format. Compressor includes watermarking, real-time preview and 30 high-quality filters and effects, providing an ideal platform for high volume or repetitive encoding tasks. Compressor comes with a new world-class MPEG-2 software encoder, which provides professional controls for adjusting bit rate and selecting one- or two-pass VBR encoding. The MPEG-2 software encoder delivers pristine quality video rivaling the speed of hardware and software encoders costing thousands of dollars as stand alone products.
True VBR encoding! My prayers have been answered!
Cinema Tools is now included in FCP4 too! Yippeeeeee!!!
And FCP 4 won't be available until June. I think WWDC will indeed premiere some new hardware (read 970) for these new digital video software gems from Apple.
Nice? It looks horrendous. It looks like Windows!!! That ain't metal, it's grey.
In fact, it looks pretty close to the neutral grey that's prized by visual artists because it doesn't bias their perception of color in the material they're working with. Humans perceive color in relative terms, so a bright white interface makes everything look darker, etc.
This is one reason a lot of people were screaming about Aqua when it came out.
I'll definitely have a problem if that becomes the standard OS X theme, because it's dull and lifeless by design. But I expect that the people who spend their days in pro applications will appreciate the expanse of unobtrusive non-color on their monitors.
Figure, while my G4 crunches away, rendering an FCP Titling track, I may as well get in my two cents.
Yes!, they're using CORE Audio (or at least, I don't see how else they could be doing it), and this is fantastic, all the old Audio problems of FCP go away (no sample accurate locking causing phasing issues etc) ... and if the Audio Units that Emagic provide are worth anything, you'll be able to do everything inside of FCP4, including professional audio posting (not quite as good as Pro Tools perhaps, but for most low to moderate budget stuff, it won't make any difference).
It looks like Apple is quite serious about making FCP4 a one stop shop for doing just about everything you need to do.
Am I the only one who notices in those "Quick Tour" movies, the interface.... well, the Menu bar is not where the menu bar sh9ould be... it is snapped to the top of the program like..ugh.... windows............................

Hmm? A brushed metal interface without the metal.
Could that be how the rumored brushed metal look in Mac OS X 10.3 will look like?

Shake has even more grey in its interface. Apple is probably working to standerdize the look of all the Pro apps.
Consumer apps are colorful/metal, pro apps are grey.

This is definitely a must buy upgrade.
