In the bottom right corner you can however see Apple's little logo for wireless, and the little spinning arrow deal. Other than that, the only thing Apple-like about it, is the mac keyboard behind it.
One interesting bit: The 'x' in the center of the wheel isn't an 'x', it's a recessed bit with four divets facing up, down, left and right: A navigational interface designed for use with a pen.
The way the wheel obscures part of the screen seems like a particularly bizarre design compromise, and I'm wondering about the "tire treads" marching across the blurred-out screen. If it's an artifact introduced by Photoshopping it's a bizarre one.
So the thing makes a bit more sense to me interface-wise than it did before. I'm just wondering, if it is real, what OS is it running? Palm OS 5 allows a different HWR to be substituted in for Graffiti, and OS 6 (due this summer) promises to be much more sophisticated, but I still can't see Apple using either one.
1.) The wheel in my iPod does not turn, it just senses your finger movements like the mouse pad things on the laptops. That wheel looks like it turns and hence a step back.
2.) If its a touch screen why have those three naff buttons ? And if the middle button was just some sort of generic select button it would probably have an apple logo.
3.) The text on the screen has been blurred afterwards, just so you can make out the date as April 2003/2 and nothing else.
4.) There is enough room at the bottom to fit the wheel in without hiding part of the screen. Which is just again.... naff
PS. Just click the spymac members only image, and the page reloads showing the true image.
Whats 'naff'? What's 'Blag"?
Also, I disagree about the wheel, fake or not, that wheel does not look like it rotates.
Wow...I don't know what to think anymore. That wheel is really strange, and that doesn't look like a touch screen, looks to active-matrix, unlike all the other palms on the market.
1. The enclosure looks about 5x7x1, which coincides with the rumors coming in from plastics
2. The device looks Apple-ish
3. The screen shot, in all it's blurry wonder looks like Mac OS X
4. That scroll wheel looks iPod-like
What is Confusing
1. Where is the Apple Logo, it's not any where to be seen, and if it were on the screen, how could we tell?
2. The battery meter looks like the one from Palm OS 5.0, why would Apple use Palm OS, when they have been pushing Mac OS X?
3. What the hell do those < > buttons do, why would Apple put those there?
4. We haven't seen any detailed side profiles, why would this be helpful? Because the rumors coming out of Apple's plastics manufacturer is that one of the sides has a crap load of ports concealed behind a door.
Hmmm. Now that you guys mention it... I'd have to say it does look more like a Palm Zire than an iPod. The Zire looks cheap, like this mock up. The iPod is classy.

Weird.

Not Unlike.... there is a new Zire model coming out with more capabilities. The photo at SpyMac might be of that.
It does look like someone took a Zire and grafted an iPod to it once they realized how cool that wheel is for navigating lists...

naff = crap
blag = scam
A picture of that can be found here:

Although, this purported iPod is likely just a Palm OS device with a hastily made plastic cover - those crafty industrial design students.
Doesn't it seem that the picture of the back of the device makes it seem much bigger than the device in the new picture?
It could be the same guy who did the iWalk. That was a heck of a fake. Something about it still doesn't look like Apple ID to me.
What is convincing:
1. The enclosure looks about 5x7x1, which coincides with the rumors coming in from plastics
2. The device looks Apple-ish
3. The screen shot, in all it's blurry wonder looks like Mac OS X
