Another thing to consider... okay suppose the 12" PB gets updated. What do you update it to? 1 GHz G4? Okay now you make the 15" PB look less powerful. Say the 15" PB gets updated first, then what do you update the high end 15" to, 1.25 GHz (or anything > 1 GHz will suffice for this scenario)? Okay, then you make the 17" less powerful. say the 17" PB gets updated first, if this happens too soon you make all the people who are just getting their 17" PB's now angry since the time between revs is essentially just a couple months. Honestly, I'm not sure how Apple will handle this, but I just don't think the 12" PB will get updated too soon.
Ok, so this is what's going to happen: No updated PB before the al 15" ships, say in August/Sep, with 1.25 ghz G4. At the same time the 17" is bumped to 1.25, and the 12" to 1 ghz.
notice the whipping the 800MHz got - it's not the MHz that's holding the iBook back...
checking the Apple site, the new iBook and video card score a 51.3 fps vs. the 53.9 fps on the powerbook- getting close...
Faster Combo drive - iBook wins there (nice plus for the consumer & PRO-fessional bootlegger)
so there you have it, BIGGER [screen/case], FASTER [cd burner/in OS 9 apps - 'cuz umm, powerbook boots OS X only], CHEAPER [by: $300 - $50 bt adapter - $35 iMic + $79 AppleWorks= $294] for the 14"...
$494 cheaper for the 12"
there's the straight dope...
I think Apple is good at distinguishing consumer vs. pro (white or silver, simple!)

we all KNOW that the powerbook updates depend on the new 15"...
but if you really wanna compare the consumer w/ the pro line, a few clicks on the Apple site will get you all the info you need...
(y'know the bigger, faster, cheaper as you previously defined -perfectly describe a PC laptop, but let's not go there)
dig, here are some specs: (and why are these threads so short on info? c'mon folks, just a few extra clicks on Apple's site)
