MacWorld Paris Skinny

What do you suppose will be announced there, if anything?

Myself, I can't see Steve going over there just to announce new iApps. That seems like a total waste of time and money, in my opinion. The fact that he's keynoting Paris means there will be a hardware announcement of some sort.

My guess would be revamped PowerBooks. Whether they're totally new (new enclosure), or bumped to the 1GHz mark, I don't know. I bet it is this. It was discussed in a major news article awhile back if you recall -- the spotting of 1GHz PowerBook prototypes with 64MB video...they said you'd have to wait until the fall...well Sept is here.

It would be nice if they lowered prices on the displays and added a 17-inch widescreen model, like the high-end iMac.

So what's your take on what will happen?

Remember, MW Paris is about two weeks away!

actually, if Apple were to ever introduce a phone/pda device, I think that Europe would be the best place for it.. As I'm sure it would be GSM only and the US still isn't up to speed with the rest of the world in cellular..

Apple doesnt announce hardware outside the US. At least not groundbraking hardware. As if apple were to release any groundbraking hardware within the next 12 to 18 month.

So you´re all basicly saying that he'll have a speach for 1.5 hours about nothing but already released stuff?!?

So when is the last time that happened?

It's two years since he was last in europe, and that time I believe Apple released the Keylime ibook...

I think it's a good chance he'll release new PowerBooks there in Paris. 800MHz, 1GHz, maybe even new motherboard using the new ASIC the PowerMacs use. DDR-SDRAM has better power consumption that SDR because it's made on a smaller process and was designed that way.

Then before the holidays, There will be room for the iBook to go to 800/900MHz. (but not before the iMac makes the jump to 1GHz).

It wouldnt surprice me if all he will be talking about is the jaguar system with the iCal and the other stuff not already released with the osx 10.2. Just alot of boring stuff that really isnt even worth mentioning.

    Best case senario:

    Sept 10 2002, Paris:

"...Oh yes there is one thing more. You know there is this one guy who ordered the edu version of Mac OS Jagwire almost a month ago and haven´t recieved it yet. So its a pleasure for me to invite Anders from Denmark on stage to recieve his long awaited copy of Jagwire. Here you go Anders."

***Anders take the box and punchs his fist against Jobs face***

"Thank you Jobs. The pleasure is all mine"

    Worst case senario:

    Sept 10 2003, Paris...

I'd be interested if he didn't talk about the 3U Xserve RAID.

strong possibility(or maybe just my hopes): Small upgrade to powerbooks(bluetooth. . .speedbump. . .) And a hundred dollars off on all iMacs and iBooks in prepiration for the well needed speed bumps.

If it makes you feel better Anders I haven't received my copy of Jaguar yet either. Mind you I do know it has been shipped and expect it to arrive Monday or Tuesday.

If he announced "hundred dollars" off everything there would be about 5 min's of silence as everyone calculates the amount in Euros it is in Paris after all.

If all he was going to do was his 'Jag'wire' show & tell he would have done it by Sat Link form the US. If he just does that I bet most people would just leave, It would be the 3rd time he had done it.

I wood have been still weighting for my Jag from Amazon (predicted shop date Aug 30th), but I decided to go out on Saturday and pick up a copy (and cancel my Amazon order)

No phone thingy in Paris simply because they use different system. If eventually introduced by Apple it will simply be a rebranded Sony/Erricson device like the one SJ showed at MWNY.

There will be no new computer hardware but I suspect some new displays will be introduced. That's all.

That is not quite accurate. A triband GSM phone will work in Europe or the USA just fine. Of course it would have to be an unlocked phone, and not vender specific (which is stupid). And of couse in Europe, you don't get charged minutes when someone calls you (which is stupid). And in Europe, they are years ahead (eg SE T68i has been widely available for years). Man, the US phone providers are stupid.

No I´m not going to Paris (unless I get an invitation from Apple personally). Start of september = start of new courses so its a nogo as long as I am a student.

He will introduce a new Airport card with bluetooth built in and maybe a faster Airport standard.
