For those of you who have been following this longer than I have, have they traditionally webcast Apple Expo Paris? I don't mind getting up at 1 AM to see this (PST for me), in reality I'll probably just stay up until 1 AM and watch it (if it is webcast). Thanks!

10AM in Paris is 3AM EDT (New York) so wouldn't it be 12AM in CA? Oh but anyway I'm pretty sure Seybold as well as Apple-Expo Paris will NOT be webcast.

well yes but it's 10am (9am Uk) in Europe. There are other timezones in the world where people watch the keynote.

Steve has the amazing ability to stretch the most unimportant thing into a 2 hour speech. I have seen it so many times I say that im going to cry the next time he does it. Yet he does it to me every year and I still listen. My guess is that he will push and promote jaguar as much as humanly possible, tell about the .mac features. I think that he will have some slight hardware upgrades that will go on unbeknownst to the rest of the world such as an upgraded graphics card for the ti-book. I dont see much happenning there, sorry im pesemistic at heart. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

Interesting quote to ponder from Jobs:

[quote]Key Quote from Steve Jobs: "And so all the new models of Macs that we introduce, including faster versions of the current models, after Jan 1st will only boot into Mac OS X."<hr></blockquote>

Don't knock it. Guessy McEstimator is the patron saint of Future Hardware.

Good to see you back Belle.

My hunch is that SOMETHING has to happen before Christmas. What and when Steve only knows.

    Hope Springs eternal,

    Hey Mandricard.

Thank you, it's good to be back again.

I'm sure you're right about something happening before Christmas (Or MWSF at the latest), the trouble is what.

For the last few years, I guess since the introduction of the original iMac, we've all had some big ideas about what we want.

We've demanded LCD iMacs, smaller iBooks, sleeker PowerBooks, larger displays...

Apple came up with the goods in most cases.

We're in a different place now. If you read threads in Future Hardware, people are looking for relatively small updates - processor speed, obviously, USB2, Bluetooth - there's nothing big, like an LCD iMac, that the Mac community is screaming for.

I'm sure a redesigned PowerBook and iBook are in the works, but to be honest I can't see the changes being too major, because I'm sure Apple will want the products to remain within their current sales areas - the PowerBook can't get much smaller, and the iBook will remain fairly rugged.

I have to admit I've lapsed a little in my Apple hardware love. I've given up my PowerBook, and switched to an iBook, but worse than that, the iBook is really just being used to play with Jaguar and iCal and whatnot.

The machine I'm using most of the time just now is a pre-production ThinkPad I've been given as a get well present. It's running XP, and honestly it puts even the iBook (w/Jaguar) to shame in size, weight, and (perceived) performance.

I'd like to think revised laptops are coming soon from Apple, but given recent comments about the current financial climate, I suspect Apple will hold off until there's renewed interest.

Just fine. It feels a lot less like packing for an expedition every time you put it in your bag before you go out.

I don't really notice the loss of screen space. It's an older model PowerBook, so I guess you're not losing that much going down to 1024x768 anyway.

There's no obvious change in performance - OS X feels the same (Going from 500MHz with AltiVec to 700MHz with Quartz Extreme). The only major difference I've noticed is encoding in iTunes.

Unless the next PowerBook is something very special, I think I'll probably stick with the iBook line.

Oh, and the display on the 12in iBook is just gorgeous compared to my old PowerBook! Bright and crisp and sharp.
