I think they are Reality TV meets Empty Wallet.

Same phenomenon that has present day's television in a headlock. You don't need inspiration, you don't even need money, just let a random number of people embarass themselves onscreen and you have a winner.

Not Apple-like, at all. Here's to the different thinkers.

to anyone that likes it...YOUR ALL CRAZY, in my professional opinion

...hm who's sig did i grab that from?

and i dont think the music shoudl be loud, just in the background so u can hear the contrast of them singing...or have it fade in after some of them stop thinking (if there is time)

i can't repeat this enough: that fact that there is NO backing music in the new ads is perhaps the most important aspect to them. the folks at chiat-day aren't stupid...

just as an example, i was watching the live stream on MSNBC, but wasn't really paying attention at that point, since it was a crappy stream and i knew i'd be able to watch the commercials later.

as soon as my brain detected NO music, and just a person "singing", i started to pay attention.

some of those ad folk know what they're doing.

besides, middle america is just gonna LOVE the kid singing the Eminem song.

and the rest of us get to enjoy the jackass singing Baby Got Back

Chiat-Day is ripping Apple off. Those commercials and their concept were obviously slapped-together in a hurry. They didn't even try to come up with a new angle that would sell the service. It's the switch campaign again, except... um... hand the person an iPod and have them sing along. Stupid. This reminds me of the original AirPort commercial with the floating, UFO base station - what a waste of money that was.

If Dell (or Gateway, etc.) were doing this new music service, you can bet the commercials would be good, that is to say, they would be commercials that told you what they were selling and why you wanted to buy what they were selling. Pretty simple, huh? Not for Apple, I guess. By the way Apple, you can still do "clever" or "cute" when you do "informative."

And Dell (or Gateway, etc.) doesn't make their own commercials either; they hire it out just like Apple does. Hence, Apple is getting royally screwed.

As for the quality of the ads. . .very different, either they wil work really well, or not at all. I can see people instinctivly reaching for the mute button. haha i dont have TV though so i'm safe.

Ha ha. OK, I get the sarcasm now.

PS: nic's commercial is hilarious! The two women are little too OK to be that entertaining.

okay, so it needs some work..... but the idea that a commercial could be made from a REAL CONSUMER'S VIDEO FOOTAGE should be explored. It would really show people what they are talking about when they say make your own movies... no "elope" doesn't count.

iPeople instead of celebrities/actors are worth watching in some cases...

Nic is funny, swap the kid for a granny who loves Eminem and more laugh, less parental anxiety, the others are ok...

expect a gradual widening of the pitch in the trend of Switch ads.

they should get bob dylan or tom waits to "iPod-karaoke" an opera...

unusual cover versions by apple-friendly artists of their favourite song (especially if it's not one of theirs) might make interesting watching.

who's yoyoma rapping to, or wynton, or sheryl, or bono...

but check out bono gripping his iPod for dear life in the long video

don't even think about trying to get it away from him

the truly awesome commercial statement due later this year from our favourite fruit company is a "1984"-league launch of 64 bitness

Check out this quote from Forbes:

"Coming soon to a TV screen near you will be a series of commercials depicting people singing while listening to an iPod. You can't hear the music they're singing along with, you hear only their voices. The ads are memorable--and there is little chance they won't make an impression: You will be curious about the product being advertised."
