It’s one clueless Judge who is making this decision. Once an intelligent tech savvy court hears the details of this case they will shake their heads in amazement that Judge Rogers ruled this way.
I do not believe that the US has one of these.

as someone who has a family member who worked in that system for several years as a lawyer, I disagree.

Does this ruling allow any developer to list apps for free on the Apple app store and the app is running in demo mode with a button taking you to an external web page to buy a license? Essentially Apple goes from getting 30% on all apps to nothing at all? Is Apple expected to run the store for free?

These are issues Apple knew about but did little or nothing to remedy. While they had an iron grip on things they just didn't care.

We know this from some of the internal communications between employees that emerged as part of the case.

Sometimes the glee was more than visible as they came up with ways to try and dissuade users from taking advantage of the anti-steering obligations.

They don't provide anything for 'free' most of the time. Apple developers do actually pay for the Apple Developer Program unless they can get a waiver. There is something they could increase easily.

With hindsight they probably should have been less restrictive with the App Store from the outset but they chose to milk the commission cow  to the tune of billions while not allowing competition to exist. They are still 'winning' in the sense that that cushion is still stuffed full, but governments around the world are ruling for changes to be made.

As someone who has a family member who worked in that system, and still does, the tech incompetence is staggering.

And that doesn't even include my own experience over the years.
