The dictator will dictate. Perhaps the only reliability for Trump’s personality.

In terms of current foreign policy, the almost 80 Trump is giving a masterclass in appeasement.

I think that’s only part of the story.

Jinping didn’t want to negotiate himself so he sent “his people” to do so. Trump did the same.

I think when key leaders want to negotiate, trump will do so. But he’s got really strong competent folks doing that, so he doesn’t need to overextend himself doing every little thing. He’s the president. He has a team. He’s empowering his team to do what they’re supposed to do - as leadership classes teach leaders to do. The guy does everything. It’s about time he lets the other guys rise up. When you have a talented team, you can trust them to do important stuff.
This administration is well-known for appointing unqualified, incompetent people for key positions. That, and the fact that Trump never gets along with anyone besides his children for long, were two of the reasons that Trump had unprecedented turnover in his Cabinet and White House during his first term. What you are seeing is not some master plan or a brilliant strategy at work - it's incompetence, pure and simple.

I miss when tech news wasn’t so political. And that’s not a criticism of the writers and editors of this site. All of this specific political news is also very relevant Apple news. If you are covering Apple news, this is what you need to write about in 2025. 100% understandable.

Is it really *that* relevant to Apple News? No, tis is just another butt hurt journalist using whatever platform they have to express their opinion by using selective quotes and snippets of information. If these 'journalist' were truly interested in the truth we would have seen an awful lot of press about how DEI programs are destroying programming integrity and security of our applications. How it has directly  contributed to the shitload of failures at Apple and other tech companies because they want 'diverse opinions' instead of world class talent. Apple products are now plagued by quality issues at a significantly higher rate than under Steve or the first few years of Tim's reign. And under Steve - Apple was still a very diverse company, it was just the brightest minds regardless of identity and racial politics not because of them.

So, before appleinsider continues alienating a large swath their reader base I would urge them to dial down the rhetoric and abstain from politics (it's not your lane). Get back to focusing on the TECHNOLOGY and the COMPANY that we all love and are passionate about and let the other 'journalist' pander political drivel and divisive reporting.

You don't seem to be posting any links to that "awful lot of press". Speaking for myself, I haven't seen any convincing statistical evidence that DEI is either discriminatory or destructive to the companies or institutions that have used it. It's like affirmative action: the only way you can claim it's discriminatory is if you can statistically show that whites are getting less opportunities relative to their population percentage than minorities.

Here's a link from Bloomberg that supports my point:

Because it did nothing of the sort. There are no reliable sources saying that it has. Furthermore, there is nothing "butt hurt" nor any selective quotes in this piece. I get that you may not like us saying that importing companies, not exporting countries, pay tariffs, but that is a stone-cold fact.

Also, I've been at this a long time, with deep hooks inside Apple service going back 37 years. Apple's products are also not "plagued by quality issues" at a significantly higher rate than at any other time. In fact, the last five years, since the butterfly keyboard was put to rest, the rate of issues has been record-low. Don't confuse noise about something a few people are experiencing on social media, with a failure rate.

We do not require you to read everything on the site. If you don't like how us talking about how the biggest democratic economy on the world interfaces with the biggest company in the world, which the name of is literally on our masthead, feel free to click on the other 10-15 stories we publish a day.

Politics involving Apple, are absolutely our lane. It's certainly our lane, more than Fox, OAN, CNN, and MSNBC's because none of them know a damn thing about the company other than what the stock price is today.

He should drink more tap water around his golf courses.* I've seen something about that in the news.

*None of which he actually owns, he 'the real estate magnate,' actually owns very little real estate.

I completely agree with Mike. While it can be disheartening to bring politics into the world of all things Apple, it is something that has huge consequences on how Apple conducts its business, especially in the present. Apple has to weather all storms and disasters that impinge on how it executes on its plans. If a natural disaster like a typhoon took out several TSMC facilities that Apple depends on within its supply chain, Apple would have to take measures to mitigate the damage. The same is true of human borne disasters that have an impact on how Apple executes on its plans. No matter where or in what form these disasters arrive, Apple has to deal with them and they are relevant to what is going on with Apple.

If AppleInsider did not provide coverage of everything affecting Apple at the present time or projected into the future we would not be seeing the whole picture and some readers and commenters may view their lack of coverage as sugar-coating Apple's current situation, at best, or censorship, at worst.

Do I tire of seeing a lot of politically related articles on AppleInsider? I do, but I understand that they have to be there for us to get the full picture of all things Apple. Like any media, I am free to decide what I read and how to balance the good and the bad whether I like it or not. If I personally feel like all the politics and legal disputes surrounding Apple are defocusing, but just imagine how Tim Cook and Apple employees feel about it. They have it 100X worse, but they have to keep their heads down and do their jobs and stay focused on the things that will always matter, their customers.

Tim Cook is in an unenviable position right now. Tim Cook is a master of systems thinking and fully understands the complexities and long term impact on everything related to Apple, internally and externally. The current president is the polar opposite, short term, transactional, in it for himself, liable to turn on a dime, flip-flopping endlessly, and with zero concern to long term consequences. Tim Cook cannot be intentionally vague about expected outcomes. Tim Cook has to deliver very precise solutions that are clearly articulated. If he doesn't deliver precisely what he said he would, he gets slammed and Apple suffers.

The current president's policies/edicts are always imprecise and vague so as to avoid accountability. When pressed on tangible outcomes, for example the form or shape of the return of currently offshored manufacturing to the US, the answers from the administration are childlike in vision, like millions of American workers screwing tiny little screws into tiny little holes - in something. Where do I sign up to be a tiny screw technician? All I'm saying is that this is the situation that Tim Cook and Apple are trying to navigate at the present. It's real, it matters, and to understand the bigger picture of what's relevant to Apple right now, we need at stay informed and that's what AppleInsider is trying to do, no matter how disturbing it may be to look at.

Needless to say, we will not tolerate anti-trans, anti-gay, or other discriminatory or hateful rhetoric. Period. Not only do those topics have nothing to do with the story at hand, they're likely only being mentioned as a cudgel to attack people that think otherwise. Such posts have been deleted, as have the threads attached. If I see anything like it again, the post will be deleted and I'll be sure to mark the offender so we know if there are repeaters.

Thanks guys. Keep up the good conversation.

Edit: as always, if you see any offending posts, please feel free to flag and report them. Mods can't catch everything.

Correct. Politics came to Apple (and therefore to AppleInsider). Apple (and therefore to AppleInsider)  didn't go looking for politics.

The angry "stay in your lane" comment is a weird, but I suppose unsurprising, thing that comes out of fans of this administration. They rally around, vote for and elect a TV celebrity who pushes his politics into every corner of every aspect of everyone's lives. But when any actor, musician, athlete, astronaut or astrophysicist reacts to the politics pushed into their lives and uses their platform to disagree with the elected TV celebrity, they're told to shut up "stay in their lane" by a TV celebrity supporter. It's the same thing going on here. I have no doubt that this website will write a lot less about politics as soon as the current administration stops pushing its politics into everything Apple.

So I guess he’s the opposite of our last “president” who didn’t do any work, covered up his failing mind and the fact that he had cancer along with the rest of the media and the entire democrat party. We don’t even know who was calling the shots at the White House in 2024 and 2024. It certainly wasn’t Biden. It’s no wonder Trump got elected a second time, as the democrat party has become a complete joke.

It wasn't great then either, but that sounds about the same as what we have now, minus maybe the cancer.

Reread my previous post. Read our pinned forum post on politics. Again, if posts are just randomized lists of hero worship and grandstanding that have nothing to do with the topic at hand, they will be removed. Idk what anyone is trying to accomplish with these kinds of posts, but they just divert the conversation and make everyone feel the need to chime in and prove the random points wrong.

    stick to the topic.
