Let's get John William's SW score and Strauss's masterpiece out of the way immediately. Too easy.

So, given the plethora of movies we've all seen, what 1 movie made you have to go out and get the soundtrack? I'm looking for the 'Best of the Best' here...so single votes only if you please.

My personal vote:

The Dust Brothers: Fight Club Soundtrack

Excellent choice. I've had Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on heavy rotation lately. Good Stuff?.

Trainspotting soundtrack really added to the movie. I've since killed it and can't listen to it anymore, but it is damn good.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves by Michael Kamen; not to offend our topic-starter, but specifically Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back by John Williams.

Wow. Nice taste and a breadth of film. Kudos.

Speaking of Psycho, did you happen to hear the multi-mix from the remake? Not entirely bad.

While I love Nick Cave's live rendition of 'From Her To Eternity', I was originally thinking of the more 'opus' film soundtracks as opposed to just a selection of songs.

    But, since you started it....

'Woman On Top' has a lovely Brazilian soundtrack.

None taken . I have the box set, and it's truly phenominal.

I just got all three collectors' editions (remastered; less noise) of the original three films -- I'm so excited (they're not here yet, but soon!); got them all for pennies on the dollar via eBay. That money-mongering site's good for something after all.

I have to give props to the soundtracks for Aliens, Alien 3, Dances with Wolves, and Bladerunner. Also really liked the musical scores for Backdraft.

Ask me to choose one, I simply cannot!

(Oh yes, and Empire Strikes Back, but it seems the OP has disallowed Star Wars entries...)

Star Wars, Jaws, Shindler's List, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurrassic Park, yadda yadda.

OK, let's just all agree that John Williams is a genius and be done with it. Kapeesh?
