I came here late, and was scanning, hoping I could be the first to post this movie.
GREAT soundtrack. Probably the only Soundtrack CD I have that I listen to start to finish. I like cranking up Angelo Badalementi's "Red Bats With Teeth", but my wife just can't appreciate good music.
Another great soundtrack is The Crow. Killer mix of tunes.
did the long goodbye use music instead of a score? nashville it was part of the movie.
in graffiti, lucas had to fight for the music usage, a) the studio weasels thought it detracted from the movie and hid the dialog, b) paying for the performance clearances was almost the biggest chunk of the budget.
of course the same weasels were singing a different tune once soundtrack sales started rolling in.
I agree that Lucas' fight for Graffiti gets a big thumbs up.
The Long Goodbye was, in a way, both a score and a "soundtrack" with songs. It was one piece of music played in a variety of different styles. Classical in one scene, with a twist coming out of a car radio, 'elevatorized' while in the grocery store, piano bar at the...piano bar. You don't even notice it's the same song at first.
I just thought it was cool that he made the actors and actresses write and perform there own songs for Nashville.
..."journey thru the past" i loved, but only once i saw the movie.
I think you're probably lucky having seen "Journey Thru the Past" only once. When asked what the movie was 'about', Neil responded "It's about 90 minutes."

i meant only after i'd seen the movie....i've seen it way more than once.
I don't think soundtracks are nearly as interesting. Too often they end up being little more than cynical reissues of tired old hit records. At their best they are generally just good compilation tapes, although sometimes something a little more worthwhile comes along
I tend to agree, and like you say, there are a few jewels mixed into the usual hodge-podge. I own very few 'compilation soundtracks', but of those I actively went out and purchased, I'd pick Heavy Metal (original....sosueme, I'm old) and the latest iteration of Romeo & Juliet (if only for the Butthole Surfers tune) to be my faves.
As far as 'scores' are concerned, I forgot about The Cure's 'Carnage Visors' release. Very moody stuff.
i just saw it last night, i always thought it was "damn you, damn you all to hell"
but it's "damn you, goddmamn you all to hell"
i love chuck's apocalyptic trilogy.
apes, omega man, soylent green
Trilogy?
apes = 'Planet of the Apes' and 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes (Leonard Rosenman (SP?))'
Quadrilogy?
Back on topic:
'Rollerball'
'Conan the Barbarian'
'Rocky'
'Battlestar Galactica' (It was released as a movie in *SurroundSound!*)
'Star Trek First Contact' (particularly the song that plays as The Phoenix ascends, clawing its way to give birth to the New Era.)
'Friends' by Elton John (never saw the movie, but had the soundtrack on LP and liked it a lot before it was stolen).
'SouthPark:The Movie" ("Welllllll, Kyle's mom's a bitch, she's a big fat witch...." I nearly died laughing in a theater in Texas watching that for the first time.)
i just saw it last night, i always thought it was "damn you, damn you all to hell"
but it's "damn you, goddmamn you all to hell"
Well, I'm sure late-20th Americana would've hated some cross-gender north-south quote like 'goddmamn you all to hell', but, I defer to the person that's actually watched it this century.

i was really surprised, i kept the movie on just to see the scene and i couldn't believe it. i think the previous versions i'd seen must have been on network tv, and they edited it. monday encore channel had an apes marathon.

and, while i'm on rock-opera-movies, Roger Waters' The Wall is pretty kickass too. not his best work (imo), but damned wonderful.
i remember dave gilmour saying "it's the only movie where the soundtrack was done first"
although i think some animation is done that way.

it's very fellini-esque in an 8mm kinda way.
my favorite scene is the auto graveyard scene.

Trainspotting soundtrack really added to the movie. I've since killed it and can't listen to it anymore, but it is damn good.
I 100% agree on that one (that's what I was going to say if no one else said anything). Very nice taste, my good man.

"it's DAMN YOU! goddamn you all to hell!"
unless you weren't quoting charlton heston's final scene in "planet of the apes"
Actually, it's:
"You finally, really did it -- you maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to hell!"
Best movie ending EVER. (Do I smell a new thread....?)

Danny Elfman hasn't written a new soundtrack since the original Batman.
John Williams writes the same score over and over again too, but he's so talented, that it's totally forgiveable (much like the Ramones).
Batman the Animated Series and Nightmare Before Christmas. Both after Batman.

and Shakespeare in Love - dunno who did that one, though
Warbeck did that one. Honestly, I only like two tracks from that CD.
Also notice you suggested a Kamen score. You'd probably like the Band of Brothers themes.
