I know, espcially as a user from that computer posted using that IP+1 on something. However, a lot of the stuff that has been posted from that IP is not the kind of stuff that would come under authorised internet use. E.g. The message board for the 509th organising a reunion.

Isn't there a way for somebody who wanted to f'ck with applenut to pretend they are somebody in the military by simulating (for lack of the technical term) a .mil IP address? That sounds a lot more likely to me.

I'm looking forward to shopping on the day after Thanksgiving regardless of any surprises from Apple.

I hoped somone would pick up on this earlier... But since nobody took the initiative...

After 3 phone calls I determined the following:

    1) The IP is from one of two computers plugged into a training station.

    2) It was setup by the afore mentioned woman.

    3) Hundreds of people use that computer each month.

    4) She has no idea who posted that but will keep an eye on it in case they return.

    5) She doesn't appreciate being chatted about on the internet.

If any of you had just picked up the phone and called her you could have figured it out yourselves... Sorry to spoil the witch hunt.

PS, also check the subnet that it came from. Only that specific IP has a .mil entry, the router behind it comes up to public qwest OC3 lines. Just another oddity... Several IPs above and below her each resolve to a different host so the hospitals terminal services will work. Now maybe we can put this to sleep....

In regards to #5, I guess I would not have posted my information on a public network if I didn't want to be in the public arena. Duh!

In regards to picking up the phone, thanks for doing all of that massive legwork

I find it funny that emails someone here recieves get as much attention to even make people trace the "connection" - as if there is nothing better to do.

    I'm a little frightened too.

I don't think any of us were being lazy, just rational, perhaps? I'd never call a military installation about an email SOMEONE ELSE received and I work at one!

I'll tell you how i feel about all this.. I've left messages on all of your answering machines.

There's nothing wrong with calling someone regarding a message posted on the internet.

Call it sleuthing or creepy or journalism.

At any rate, if someone had an inside scoop would they really pick one person off of a Mac rumor board to confide in with no details, no identity...

Also, if someone has the inside scoop, and decides to spill the beans or at least hint about the beans or even brag about knowing the deal on the beans. They usually divulge info for some type of gain. Respect money sex whatever.

Choosing one person of of a message board fails this litmus test. So it's probably a random pranker, chain yanker.

Haven't you seen applenut's picture on the AI gallery? Its obvious that the insider wanted to sex him up. So yes, there is something to gain.

There's no need to go to such lengths. Word on the bleachers is that applenut is easy.

    you wish

anyways, I regret posting the IP now as some of you have officially freaked me out with the lengths you have gone to find out who is behind this. I'm still waiting for a response but it's a bit frightening that based on that IP you found out nearly everything there is to know about some woman in the military

I do a bit of buying/selling on eBay and I have come to learn that there are many ways to find out info about people by one simple blurb posted anywhere on the internet. Hunting down information on someone, ala Perry Mason, is done much easier with freely available tools and public information Rather fun too, if it's not to regain lost money, etc...
