Either the G5 announcement shoved aside a preview of more Panther, or the feature set still isn't set in stone yet. What was shown looked neat, but sure left a good deal of lacunae. And oodles of teasing hints...
Yes indeed. Apple hasn't given us really any huge architectural changes. I think Panther has some "Heavy Hitting" features that haven't been mentioned yet. What was demo'd today seems to be more along the lines of eye catching features.
I'm looking at the AD integration and it says AD integration "without schema modification", but that is on the Panther Server, how about on the client?
I am betting that the new Finder will allow "Smart Folders" ala iTunes. You could create a folder with a rule that lists say, "up to 30 Word documents edited within the last 7 days".
I really hope they have smart folders. I would like to be able to also have it utilize any filesystem db info, as well as parsing of the file, such that I could say,
"every latex file containing the word "JTECH" in the body and edited in the last one year"
Regarding multiple desktops, couldn't you use this to implement multiple them? Seems to me that you could just have some dummy login's and switch between them while the apps are running in the other login sessions.
One thing I thought was certain to be included was new text to speech. After all, it was over a year ago that Jobs stated they were looking for a new engine.

AT&T's NaturalVoices too pricey, perhaps? I was expecting this too.
BTW, sharp eyes, Rosetta, but what's changed about Sherlock? Just looks like the Dictionary channel to me.
I have heard that the process of how a Sherlock channel is constructed -- which will almost certainly affect the speed -- is currently under a (much needed) major revamp.

I suppose you could do that, if you keep all of your documents outside of your Home folder or in the Shared folder.
So it could be done, but you'd have to spend some time working around its intended use. Setting up a new user everytime you need a new workspace doesn't sound so great to me. Nor, if FUS uses login shortnames (does it?), nor could you easily change workspaces' names. Finally, setting up shared libraries for everything (~/Library, ~/Library/Preferences, iTunes, etc, etc) sounds like an incredible pain.

Yeah, same question here.

1. Spring-loaded folders in the dock.
2. The ability to close windows from the dock.
Does anyone know if these are in 10.3?

That type of thing.

I was just going to ask this same question. Beat me to it.
My guess is that Apple won't do this because it might eat into their display sales.
1. Updated Sherlock as seen on the right side of this pic:
2. New Desktop Pics Sys Prefs Panel as seen at the top of this pic:

They don't mention the dock at all, and I think that it will be updated in 10.3. They one in the preview looks like the 10.2 version though.

I want multiple desktops too.
I think Expose confirms that Apple thinks multiple desktops are inappropriate for Mac OS X, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
