dual 2GHz seems to be the best machine for the price. personally, i would wait until real world testing has been done by people other than apple. i am guessing tomshardware and anandtech (etc etc) will all be testing the new machines.
Fine, but you can also pull the Superdrive and modem from the 1.8G making it $2,170
Sure you can do that, but the man already said he is willing to pay for the 1.8 GHz machine, so what would be the point of knocking down the price of that machine? He is conflicted with the dilemma of buying a Dual 2 GHz machine or 1.8 GHz. So by making the price of Dual machine lower the price difference isn't as great. It makes it palatable for him.
So the gist of the pricing scheme is to a get a standard 1.8 GHz machine or get Dual without a Superdrive. Would the buyer willing to give up the Superdrive to get the extra speed? Not can I live without Superdrive in my 1.8 GHz machine.
I don't really see the point of lowering the price of 1.8, you might as well get that instead, if you are going to do that.

What I meant to say is Powermax is offering a free upgrade to Panther when you buy a G5 Powermac from them

$2,399.00 for 1.8 GHz
$2,770.00 for dual 2GHz
If you need the SuperDrive buy it on eBay later when they become cheaper.
I don't need a Superdrive or the Modem so its no big deal to me.

If you take out the Super Drive and the Modem the difference is less than $400.
