Devries has just transformed himself into the latest overpaid mook to sign with the Rangers. He is now the Bobby Holik of defence-men. If I recall correctly, Messier is no longer with the Rangers, so that'll seriously help their playoff chances. I can't imagine it was easy coaching that team with an ass like Messier surely taking control of the dressing room whenever he saw fit.
As far as my precious Leafs go....Brian Marchment was the best they could do???
Christ, with that knee surgeon on the team I really don't think I'll be able to cheer for them. And Quinn....That guy has got to go. Too many chances to build a winner and zero success. I'm still expecting him to resign feucking Jonas Hoglund for millions. I don't know what's going on between those two but I know it ain't right.
I guess am officially a Canucks fan. Toddzilla's reign of terror will continue! Fear Toddzilla. Fear Him!!
I just wish the Canucks had a real budget to play with. They couldn't even re-sign Trent Klatt for God's sake. And he was excellent during this year's playoff season. I don't know how they're going to continue competing if they're going to have to lose these talented role players as soon as they develop into something. CBA definitely needs work.
As for the DeVries signing, Rangers fans should be happy. This guy is a no-nonsense, team grinder who will go out there and skate hard every night, hammer on people and score some key points. Colorado didn't need one less DeVries to secure a Cup, they needed one MORE. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I still can't believe it. It was his decision ultimately but I'm sure if they Avs had offered him say 3M a year, he'd have taken it. Lame.
PS - I agree. Pat Quinn sucks and must be banned from the league immediately.
Looks like the Ducks have made up for the absence of Kariya next year. They've signed Prospal and Federov! Looks like another exciting year in the Western Conference.
DAMN! I just read about the signing on Toronto Star's Website. Apparently Federov was interested in signing with the Leafs but would Quinn sign him? Nooooooo!
Good for Anaheim. Disney is supposed to give up ownership this summer I think so that's another plus. Man, if Federov had gone to Toronto, they would've easily been my least favorite team EVAR. As it is I suppose this could earn him a bit of respect.
One of their best prospects and grinders for Peter Worrell. Why not just give the entire friggin team away Pierre?
[Not saying Messier was an offensive genius or anything but he could play multiple positions well and is the kind of guy every team needs to succeed. Worrell on the other hand is good for nothing but stupid penalties and the occasional fight. I'd rather have Scott Parker. Pierre is beginning to reach "dumbass" status.]
The Worrell trade made no sense. Where are LaCroix's scouts? They did a great job brining up young players, and they seem to have lost many of them. They're following the Detroit buy-a-team approach, which is a shame. I at least had a lot of respect for organizations like Ottawa, Colorado and even San Jose before they imploded for actually raising a team.
I am losing respect for LaCroix by the minute. That DeVries / Worrell escapade was borderline retarded. At least they have a team, Calgary has three forwards signed currently.
ESPN has a good article on why my precious Leafs suck so much ( or rather why they my suck so much this season)
Sounds like Quinn may decide to stick another season lording over Leaf as Coach and GM. I really thought that once Stavro sold the team things would improve. I guess I got my hopes up after the Nolan trade.
Defence is going to be a big problem next year, I just hope they give Collavachio (sp?) a fair shake next year. They kinda made him the scapegoat for that early season slump (based on a goal by Pavel Bure).
Oh, and Lucky Luc re-signed with the Kings. Although I don't see that improving their shot at making the playoffs.
Leafs aren't one of my favorites mostly because of Pat Quinn and guys like Domi. I don't mind guys like Roberts [(I can even stomach Sundin - barely)], and I think the Leafs certainly have the money to contend. I don't know what their deal is, really. I'll guess I'll read that story....
I wonder how the Wings will fair with Federov and Luc gone. Luc certainly wasn't a main cog in their offense points-wise, but he certainly made it tougher for defenses to make effective pairings and rotations.
The Kings re-signed Adam Deadmarsh. That was probably the smartest thing they did. Haven't really paid much attention to their other moves. Things Kings are one of those teams that always seem to be a couple men short of greatness. They got some excellent talent (Norstrom, Palffy, Alison, Deadmarsh, etc.) and they make their good runs, but...
...the kind of remind me of the Phoenix suns in the mid-90's. I don't know. Maybe the thing that's missing is a real leader / take charge type of player. And no, this thread shall never die. It will live on in infamy!
