anyone who knows me - knows that i'm not the "rumors-type-o-guy"...

but i have a very good feeling about mwsf.

    my guess:

    -apple browser

    -19" studio display

    -all new power mac's

    -all new imac's

    -(ipod-phone-thingy (sony-ericsson))

just my guess... and guessing is about as close as we all can get here.

I sincerely hope that we can soon see a return to a very quiet PowerMac. I am not an expert on this sort of thing but would chips fabbed at 0.09 be capable of running with convection cooling?

Well.. The rumor-mill has been very quiet these pasts months... Mayby Steve really has done something about those NDA breakers..

It's amazing that Apple came out with a press release two weeks back stating that they were pressing charges on a former employee who leaked information out to the public six months ago. Some have noted that the timing was quite the coincidence, considering the relative close proximity to MacWorld SF. And now, of course, there ARE no rumors. ........ I wonder why that is?

That depends on the chip. The G4 probably will. The .13 micron 970 probably won't, unless Apple puts it in a carefully engineered and controlled box like the Cube's, with a big heatsink.

Certainly, nothing with five hard drive bays, two optical drive bays, 4 PCI slots and 1 AGP slot is going to be convection cooled, even if the CPUs run at room temperature. The best they can do is use reasonably quiet fans.

People who work for Apple are generally very loyal to the company. Most leaks come from temp employees (workerbee) and companies outside Apple.

Apple doesn't need to cut down on leakers, all they needed to do was lessen their involvement with outsiders. Which they have probably done.

I think the leaks at Apple originally started with internal employees trying to gain outside support for their projects. It seems that everything was so disorganized pre-97 Jobs, that to make sure management didn't cut their projects, employees laked information to hype up their importance.

In the latest Macworld <a href="http://www.macworld.com/2003/02/macbeat/predictions/"; target="_blank">predictions article there's this gem by Contributing Editor Bruce Fraser:

[quote] Software: I'm under NDA (but it will have something to do with processing pixels).

What the heck does that mean?

That's kinda what we all do, huh? The perpetual "rallying cry" of the Apple faithful: "just wait until [fill in the blank]".

I've been here at AppleInsider for three years (three years this week, now that I think of it!) and I can't tell you how many times I've heard this!

It's always NEXT Macworld, the NEXT update, the NEXT rev, the NEXT release, the NEXT keynote, etc.

Just funny how much that seems to be the one unifying factor among everyone here.

"They're sucking right now, but when they release the..."

Well guess what? They'll probably - in the opinion of many here - STILL be "sucking" then and you'll STILL be going "yeah, we got this G5, but I'm holding off until the G6...".

Do you honestly think that if Apple were to deliver the next gen PowerMac (G5) that we would all hold off our purchases for a G6? Come on, are you really that stupid?

Things can change and do change. It is foolish to believe that what has happened in the past will continue to happen, or what is happing now has always happened in the past. Steve Jobs obviously has a plan and a goal for apple. I believe that he will get his 10% market share, and I believe he will need the PPC970 to do it.

Here's how it works: when someone (me, for instance) puts a little smiley of a guy with sunglasses smoking a cigarette immediately following a statement, you're usually supposed to take that as "the poster is being sarcastic or silly...take a joke!".

    Are YOU that stupid?

Besides, DO NOT tell me that there are a few people here who - no matter WHAT Apple ever releases - will not be upset, disappointed, let-down, etc. and STILL hold off for the "next big thing". It's a second-career to some, apparently, but I won't name names...

Check the archives to confirm this phenomenon, if you'd like.

So, while I was being kinda sarcastic and silly, fact is I've got a point.

    I usually do.

Cccchhhhiiiillllllll!!! I was being sarcasting too, but obviously, my sarcasm falls on deaf ears! So while you were being "sarcastic and silly" you really do believe that people will hold off purchases when Apple finally releases the first "new" Powermac in 3-1/2 years?

of course, new hardware designs would be great, but i'm really hoping to see 2 basic things:

    1) an apple web browser with the panache of apple combined with the speed of chimera. bye bye IE

    2) an improved version of appleworks that can read and write word files. bye bye office X

that would make me happy. of course, a 17'' 1 ghz imac with bluetooth wireless keyboard/mouse + ati radeon 9000 on a 133 or 167mhz system bus for around $1700 would be great too!

I'm holding out for the G7. Give me the G7 or else my iBook will have to do all of my 3D rendering. I know that it will be fabbed on the .007 process, hence the name connection. On that process it will be room cooled, for those that work in meat lockers, of course. Then I will buy but only then. And I will get a second job as a butcher! I really hope that this MacWorld sees the introduction of the G5 that way I don't have to wait so long for the 'real' deal.
