www.macosrumors.com (yeah, I know) suggests a bluetooth iPod with a color screen that connects to your cell phone so you can browse the web.
And then you connect the subspace transponder to the flux capacitor for iTimeTravel. Or maybe with the tiny viewscreen we'll get a good view of Meader's head.
Video on the iPod would be wrong and probably not possible, though color would be helpful for viewing iCal, etc. So if Apple goes to this form factor with video it would have to have a different name, like iVid.
Pocket-sized video on demand might fit in the iPod form and size if the device and a 3" screen were set in landscape orientation and instead of the big old scrub wheel and 4 buttons, all you need are two buttons and a jog-wheel just to the right of the screen. Has anyone photoshop-ed something like that?
You couldn't hold much video, so you don't need to navigate 5,000 files. FW and stereo out is all you need and it would be the same size as the iPod. What if this was an area in which Apple and nVidia were sharing research....palm-sized video cards?
You can hold a lot MPEG-4 movies (full-length) in 10 gigs. Even a few on a 5 gig. Then hook it up to any tv with RCA (using the iBook's vid cable.)
This would be HOT.

how do the A/V out and Audio out ports similar on both products (iBook and iPod)
this would tell us if something like that is happenable
What apple will do with the iPod is about the hardest one can guess. For the iPod is perfect the way it is now. God only knows and by God I mean Steve.
I also think video and digital pictures is where the iPod will go next. Anyone here remember those rumors a while back about an iDock? (sorry no link)
Now that Apple has everyone carrying around iPods they will release a device which the ipod can be inserted into. This iInsertnamehere will come complete with all sorts of goodies, any of the above!
First of all that is not true. Apple emplyees only know need to know bases information. I know becasue my friend works for apple in SF. Also sice I am playing to buy a new g4 if there was any thing new at macworld he would have told me to wait. Ipod for what it does is plenty fine.

Anyway, my friend said that the new top of the line iPod would have a lot of new "applications." His friend wouldn't say what the "applications" were but was very clear that it was only the top of the line iPod that would be affected.
I know this isn't much but atleast it can help narrow other people's speculation. I don't know if applications means new software or if it will have video capabilities like others have speculated on this board but maybe this clue can help people piece together what is coming. It makes sens that only thee top of the line pod would change nas Apple is still selling the normal pods very well and I'm sure they want to drop the price which is a lot easier without adding new features.
Again, I could be wrong but I bet I'm not.[/QUOTE]
Remember that firewire does not need a host computer to work. I can imagine any number of attachments that would plug into the port on the top such as video and still cameras.

Well atl east it fits. Im using it right now to play the sound from my I pod on my Stereo/TV setup. Still there is no picture... yet
What about iPod + iPhoto? Isn't this obvious to everyone?
What about a (even slightly) bigger screen?
I find interesting how many people "know" what iPod "is". iPod is whatever Apple wants it to be.
I (personally) noticed that Apple did NOT call it "iPlayer" or "iMusic" or some such.

Not so obvious really. We have the ability to show digital photos off of camera's built in screens. In the two years that I've been a digital camera toter, I can't recall ever really needing the ability to do anything other than preview my pictures with the built in screen. Ocaisionally I'll show someone a shot I've taken, but its always a quick conversational diversion. Not that the feature isn't desirable, its just that there isn't much of a pent up demand for this ability.
Here is why I think a color screen on the iPod would be unproffitable for Apple.
The iPod makes almost no compromises in its role as an audio source. Assuming you don't mind mp3 sound quality and lack of digital output, it provides good audio in a portable package. On the other hand, the iPod would be a horrible video device in comparison to pretty much every other successful video device on the planet. While people can be content listening to headphones, they are seldom content with watching a 1.5 inch video screen. It just isn't that enjoyable when you're used to movies and big screen televisions. A color screen would raise the iPod's price in order to provide a gimick that only gadget geeks would use. If people really were interested in tiny television screens, those 70 dollar iPod sized televisions from radio-shack would be everywhere. Tiny televisions have been around for over a decade and its just that noone really wants one.
It would be unproffitable for apple to raise the price of the iPod in order to support a color screen and video. Consumers just don't want to pay for a portable television/vcr. These devices already exist and no one buys them. They are a fraction of the price that a color iPod would demand and still, no one buys them.
