Uh, at that age I was one horny bastard. what's changed...

Anyways, I knew I was straight. I have gay friends, they say they always knew they were gay. This seems to be the common experience. However there is a percentage of people that are just confused about their sexuality for any number of reasons, some sort of sexual abuse, etc.

I have to agree with most here and say that this is a very bad idea. Reminds me of a special school for the deaf and blind (often erroneously considered 'tards by some of my schoolmates) right down the street from my old high school. And of course, other 'segregated education' comes to mind. Blacks prior to the 1960s. Women prior to... (fill in for your own country), ... I'm really puzzled as to why the gay would willingly associate themselves with, even turn back the clock to that kind of education.

This reminds me of a special school that the state shut down. It was a school at a women's shelter. It catered to the needs of women who were trying to leave their abusive husbands. Some of these women were so terrified that they couldn't leave their kids at school all day because they reasonably believed that their husband would take the kids. Also the kids were afraid to be away from their mother for significant amounts of time in the day. Same reason.

Any way the state shut it down. Under the guise that separating these kids from the whole population of students would do more harm than good.

I just had a thought. They could make TV show out of Gay High.

Priveledge, Power, Politics & Corruption ( money ).

Besides which it is interesting to note how often " oppressed groups " become the oppressors...

    So it goes...

we have `special' school in nyc for the deaf or otherwise handicapable, called 'School for the Deaf'. That has always been reasonable to me, because the deaf need teachers who can do sign language, and the blind need braille, etc, and most schools aren't equipped. That school also lets in "regular" people too, and they get integrated into the relatively less handicapped classes.

one of the things that bothers me about this school is that, according to the article, a gay-rights youth advocacy group is backing it. also, as much as i hate bloomberg, as i read it, it aint his fault. this has been an idea since atleast 1984. it just happened to come to fruition in his term. every mayor from 84-now should be blamed for not axing this idea on its way up.

the School for the Deaf is literally 5 minute from me. I don't believe they admit "regular" people. It would be a waste. I actually believe it's quite hard to get into.

It's a beautiful school none the less, great building, very nice grounds, nice baseball field which St. Raymond's Boys High School uses for their games.

The weird thing is the street signs by the school are in sign language.... they have images of hands signing words..... now correct me if I'm wrong but if you're deaf you can read words, don't need to read signed language on a sign. Allways confused me

applenut... maybe that's a way of reminding people driving through that there are deaf kids in the area?

wouldn't it make more sense to have a few signs that say "deaf school in area" or something like that?

    road signs should be consistent...

Maybe a sign that said "School for the Deaf" would be more effective? Also maybe a "Don't honk they can't hear you anyway you dumb New Yorker" would be good too

In fact the more I think about a sign with sign language on it is super stupid.

Yeah, there are signs in a neighborhood here saying "Deaf children playing here" or something.

I can't wait to see the signage for this new school.

As an aside, you make me think of a bumper sticker designed to stop drivers honking..it should read..

" HONK IF YOUR STOOPID "

    That should shut em up
