[quote]However, towards the end of the evening when everyone was "a little the worse for wear", my friend overheard the design engineer confiding in a couple of people about a really unusual feature of the G5's enclosure

wow. i am still laughing... if this gets released, i may just be knocked flat on my ass.
scary thought, though: if i remember, macosrumors was one of the first (if not THE first) to scoop the cube's form factor, and we thought they were totally full of it (myself included). geez... why not just make it in the actual SHAPE of an apple and get it over with...
that mockup is excellent ... it reminds me of playing Acornsoft's Elite on my old BBC micro years ago ... the basic space stations were dodeca-thingies, and planets with higher tech status had more complex-sided structures
i wonder if adding cds to the drive at the front will require the same deft skillz needed to dock manually in Elite?
i'm sure they'll introduce a 'pro' version for $300 more which has a built-in docking computer
IMHO the new apple digital hub being a shiny white and chrome thargoid ship .. hehe
Now in his defense, he does say pretty clearly that he doubts this is for real and we almost certainly will not be seeing any dodecahedra any time soon. So, maybe dock him a few points for lack of common sense for posting it, but let's not claim he's actually predicting this. We ridicule him for not posting anything, then when he does post a tip from someone (with an elaborate disclaimer), we ridicule him for that, too. Cut the guy some slack, already.
If the conversation as reported really did take place, I suspect the engineer was not all that sloshed, but just sick of being harassed all night long. He probably just made it up on the spot just for the fun of watching the gullible fools swallow it.
LOL, this dodecahedron Maac is one of the most incredibly stupid rumors I've ever heard.
At fifrst I though MOSR meat tat it had a flat top and bottom to the computer, with all th sides But upon closer inspection of the article, I think MOSR actually means that it would be a spheroid computer (with all those sides, like facets to a gemstone)!!!!
If Apple makes such a computer, even on a limited productoi run, I'll suck my own dick, and swallow!!!
If MOSR meant this as a joke, then they are one step away from running clear of my bullshit detector

What a waste of time. Someone please tell Ryan Meader about a concept called "volume effiency."
Yes, I know a dodecahedron is closer to a sphere than any Mac out there....and yes a sphere is the most volume efficient, but not when it comes to computers, which are designed around flat boards and inflexible silicon.
This is why the pizza-box reigns supreme, and why 1U server racks are designed the way they are.
I ushualy stand up for MOSR, since they are a rumor site that is ushualy at least interesting to read. But this Dodacahedron crap is just the lamest thing I have evar heard in my entire life. Holy crap someone has be abusin the happy gas at the neighborhood dentistry.
open from the rear.Shorter and wider than the current G-4 casing.Modular interior design.Made of magnesium and possibly black.Very futuristic.I suspect something similiar to ship in the second

I think the problem is when Ryan runs out of medication. He promised he would take it, if they let him out.

You said that about something else, and when it happened, did you? Huh uh.

"and my friend got smashed and spilled the beans..." But Meader got pretty damn close to that.
That sketch is very cool. Thanks for posting that.
Look at the NeXT cube and the Apple Cube.It would
