Reward correct info

AI should offer incentives ($$$ or otherwise) for info that's proven to be correct. At the very least, they should have a thread listing all the people (and their posts) who offer 'insider info' that turns out to be crap.

After being way off mark with MWSF, I think we could all benefit from better intel (no pun intended).

And who exactly would put up the capital to do this?

We aren't exactly bringing in cash by the fistfulls.

Ok, I'll pay $1 USD for the first one in this thread who can accurately predict the date and the specs of the next iBook.

Jeesh, I'm not talking wads of cash here.

I for one, wouldn't mind offering a slab of beers for some decent info (particularly regarding the next imac update, for example)!

    Anden,

Its going to cost you wads of cash to internationally ship "a slab of beers". I hope you get your insider info from a fellow Aussie.

Even if you successfully set up some kind of awards system, it will only increase the amount of BS on these forums.

More people will be posting educated guesses in the hopes that they accidently get the right info to receive the reward.

A fair amount of the rumors seem to be at least partially borne out at some point also - even if they aren't for a released product.

Apple has a hardware "Seed" program, there's no doubt about that. But the prototypes don't necessarily have 'shipping' features. If Apple hasn't had a Firewire800 port for desktops for awhile now I'd be shocked. "Welded shut cases" - well, one thing we know for sure - the cases won't SHIP welded

So judging the accuracy of a rumor is tough. It's like judging the accuracy of a psychic actually - easy to guess _some_ of the features right, maybe even most of them if you choose your predictions carefully.

    1) I predict we won't ever see "Flower Power" or "Dalmation" colorations again. Send cash.

    Yeh...

OK. I give in. We will have to live with the BS.

(I still wouldn't mind shipping a slab, for some decent info on an imac though... A slab shipped to fricken' Bolivia would cause me less grief than buying an imac now, only to have the new model pop up in a weeks time).

New generation processor within the next 2yrs

...give me money, er um, a slab of beer!

Okay I´ll chip in AND make the rules. Anyone who nails (and I mean NAILS it. No educated guesses here) a release date and specs of any future Apple product will receive a couple of beers from me. And you have to claim the beers in your post (like "And if this turns out to be true I claim the beers Anders promised"). Anyone who does it with a tablet/Newnewton thingy gets a 30 case.

But remember this has to be inside info class information. And for every time you don´t get it right I´ll substract two beers (like if you post anything that didn´t come true and claimed the beers you´ll have to predict two that did before you´ll get the beer)

My father works at Carlsberg so I have a good chance of getting you some pretty special beers.

    Anden, I feel your pain

I'm also on the lookout for an iMac but I'm waiting for the update, which will, as far as I can predict, will happen real soon, ahem.

But Anders,....Carlsberg? Really now. That's not exactly an incentive for a guy like me who happens to live in the land of beer.

I'll toss in a crate of Orval or Chimay.

There, that should get us some REAL info <img src="graemlins/cancer.gif" border="0" alt="[cancer]" />

How exactly were we way off the mark. The 12 and 17" speculation was there before the keynote, and we were also right about Apple's plans to charge for iLife which Apple only changed at the very last minute due to extremely (and completely justified) negative reaction.

Jobs has taken to making digs at the web community, but we were much closer this MW than we have been in the past.

Proof? And no, thinksecret is not proof. Everyone seems to think this is true, but how about this scenerio:

Apple has ALWAYS charged for iDVD. You could not download it for free ever. The only other way of getting it is by buying a Mac. I believe that iMovie 2 was the same way (I maybe be wrong on this one). So maybe Apple thought, "Hey, we are already making this DVD for iDVD, and only using 1.5 GBs of it. Lets throw on the other iApps so people can get them all at once, and so we can fill that exra space. It will be great for the dial up users. Plus we can make another cool looking box."

I think the second part of the suggestion might be worth considering: a list of predictors (sic) that have served certified wrong predictions. Should such predictions turn out to come true at a somewhat later date, the name of said predictor should be transferred to a second list, that of True Prophets?.

    Any seconders?

    You've got to be kidding?

Almost every conceivable possibility was suggested leading up to MWSF (imac updates, powermac updates, ipod update, itablet, iphone, ieverything etc.) ... I would hardly call that offering accurate information.

If a bunch of blind men fire enough bullets, they're bound to hit the target once in a while.

That being said - there were some enlightened individuals who seemed to have their fingers on Apples' pulse...

And this brings us back to the problem at hand: How to determine good intel from bad.
