Why would Apple even bother when Panther is nearing completion? Ignorance indeed.

    You wanna bet?

Sure. I'd say the odds are in my favor.

I suppose it all hinges upon how far off Panther is. I say it's about 6 weeks out. Seems silly to expend programmer effort on 10.2.7 for the rest of us if the main reason said version exists is to make Jag compatible with the G5 / any other new hardware.

It seems even sillier to make 10.2.7 available for developers to test and not release it for the rest of us later

You talking "ADC Developers" or Apple-selected developers? In the former case I guess you have a point, but not the latter. In that case, doesn't it depend on what the purpose of the update is? If they planned it all along for everyone that's one thing, but I was under the immpression this was one of those "hardware compatibility" releases.

Also, we're at the end of Jaguar's life cycle pretty much. Not like it was just released six months ago, and therefore everyone needs to be working from the same release going forward....

    The first.

To fix bugs. Again, the fixes in 10.2.7:

The 10.2.7 Update delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability for the following applications, services and technologies:

Audio, Bluetooth, Classic compatibility, Finder, Graphics, LDAP, Power Management, Safari, and FireWire and USB device compatibility.

Unless the rest of us have a G5

If 10.2.7 is released for the masses then I don't see Apple having Panther ready 4-5 weeks later. It's usually 3 month cycles (more or less) I have only seen 10.2.7 mentioned as THE only OS that the G5 can run.

Put it this way. I'd rather have Panther sooner and no 10.2.7.

I would take no 10.2.7 as an indication of an early Panther. The early Jaguar was a real nice surprise.

Moogs that is SO FUNNY. Rob's daughter. That girls is awesome. I was hoping she'd do more. She could have a career as a motivational speaker, bouncer, actress, or all.

Apple released 10.1.5 one month before announcing the release date of 10.2.

Has anyone checked the build number of 10.2.7 that ships with the G5s? Something tells me it is a different build to the one that will be released for G3s/G4s. I don't think it can even be installed on regular Macs.
