i'm just tired of taking crap from people who just are dragging me down.

NO! NO! NO!
We need all the help we can get. When I first got here Fireside Chat was a mess....
Stay out of Hartford; there are definitely better places to spend your time and money. Boston would be [a much better alternative] if you have to stay out east...
Hey! I LIKE Hartford although I have to admit, Boston does have a LOT more to offer.
Hassan, her parents actually live in Hartford? I ask because Hartford is a very small city tightly ringed by more affluent suburbs. It's actually pretty easy to stay out of Hartford.
Some of what Hartford has:
If you are up for some theatre, The Hartford Stage is one of the finest theatre companies in the country - including Broadway. They are doing a Tennessee Williams retrospective this fall that I definitely plan to see. Or you could go to the Bushnell. "Hairspray" is playing there until the 7th of October.
The UConn Huskies play Lehigh on Saturday, the 4th, at brand spanking new Rentschler Field in East Hartford. College football in the autumn is always a blast.
If you want to go shopping, West Hartford Center is VERY nice. Or you could go to Westfarms. Westfarms is a mall. The Apple Store is there.
If you are up for some Blues, do NOT fail to visit Black Eyed Sally's. Boston DOESN'T have a better Blues club. I've NEVER seen a bad act there. The food is very good too, if you're in the mood for Cajun style cuisine. Great ribs too.
Lots of good restaurants. I'd recommend Luna Pizza in West Hartford Center. They do an excellent New Haven style pizza. But if you want the real thing, Wooster Street in New Haven is less than an hour away. For more than pizza there are about a zillion great Italian places in Hartford. I like Hot Tomatoes but everybody has their favorite. For Mediterranean/Greek/Vegetarian cuisine go to Tapas. Or if you want to go upscale, Max Downtown is hard to beat and it's a block away from both the Hartford Stage and Black Eyed Sally's. I haven't been to Pastis (just around the corner from Max's) yet but I hear it's very good too.
For architecture check out Richard Meier's Hartford Seminary or the Phoenix. I live just a few blocks away from the Hartford Seminary. If you are up for a beer or something, let me know. The Mark Twain House is also near here.
obviously the art institute is the most valuable, but i'm surprised you don't have something to grumble about that.
...
Well when AIC gets done with the Renzo project it should give MP a run for it's money. Now if they'd only go forward with the Gonzales Bridge aspect of the project it would be even more interesting.
Oh my god this really is the funniest post I've ever read on AO. Thank you Superkarate!
I'm not kidding everyone. Please, understand, this is f-ing hillarious. So funny that if you don't think it's funny it's because you are mentally incapable of understanding the situation. It really is that funny.
And Superkarate, I'm not being sarcastic when I say it's the funniest post ever in AO. You get my thumbs up today.
THANK YOU.
You think that's funny? You should hear me, "You know that painting that has Elvis behind the lunch counter and Bogart and Marilynn Monroe are sitting at the counter?" "Yea I know that one!" "AIC has the painting that that parody is based on" "Okay?"
Real quick: Colander, bless you. She is to all intents and purposes rackless, and her parents do live in Hartford, but I do indeed love her and marriage isn?t really in the offing. That was a kind of joke. If we go somewhere dry it's going to be Salt Lake City it seems (the itinerary is now entirely out my hands it appears) but I'm not convinced we're going to have time. You live in Washington: are you in government?
Bunge: bless you. Where do you live?
Scott: bless you. I don?t know which bit of Vermont I?m going to.

Finally, the Wadsworth Atheneum is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon and they have terrific films too. The film series at Trinity's CineStudio and at Real Art Ways are even better.
Way, way more here than you probably will have time to do but this will give you an idea about what's available.

I kinda like the 'new' Soldier Fields...makes it look like a big ass UFO just squashed the Parthenon.
