Fire Andy Reid. The Eagles Are a Joke
There are no more excuses. It's not the loss that bothers me. It's the way they lost last Monday night.
Here are the Eagles in their new $500 million stadium. It is said that this stadium (partly financed by tax dollars while Philly's public school are in private takeover) is magnificent. Even the bathrooms are said to be on par with a 5 star hotel.
Here are the Eagles, with Donovan and Staley and countless others. We've got the fans. Weve got the stadium. We thought we had the coach. So, what happened?
Andy Reid happened. The team didn't just lose 17-0 (pathetic, even against Tampa), they were slaughtered. Missed catches. Poor tackles. No energy. A total lack of fundamentals. And worst of all, the worst play calling I've ever seen.
This is one person's fault: Andy Reid. Coaches motivate their teams. They are first and foremost responsible for play calling and fundamentals. The Eagles have the talent, despite popular opinion. They don't have the coach. The man has one of the best (or potentially the best) QB's in the league. He can can throw. He can run. He can lead. The problem is that he's not allowed to PLAY. They keep him contained. Reid plays it conservative. He keeps McNabb in the pocket.
I was once a huge fan of Reid. But, I think he's taken the team as far as he can. Is he better than Ray Rhoads? Yes. Better than previous coaches? Yes. But good enough for the current day Eagles? No.

Nothing personal, SDW but jeez, that's the classic Philly attitude. Win now, all the time, or you're trash.
The Eagles (who were a game away from the Super Bowl last year) struggle against the defending World Champs (who boast a defense that may well prove to be one of the greatest off all time) and it's "Off with his head!"
The fans at the stadium were booing in the second quarter when the game was what, 3-0?
Don't ever change though, this stuff always cracks me up!

but face it, Tampa played an awesome game . . they were scary awesome . . . I hate to admit it but they look to win it again this year
unless Buffulo or Pittsburgh win it
and we all know Pittsburgh is gonna win it
Then there are the Lions . . . . my new second favorite team
can't wait till they play the 49ers. . . it would be great if they beat the pants of the red and gold , , , Mariuchu's revenge on that sad old man in the box seats

man, tampa has the swagger of muhammad ali. and they finally have a coach that can make a silk purse offense out of sow's ear personnel. they'll get a few ill-timed injuries this year, and lose a few games to people they should and should not (see: saints), but tampa is a scary bunch right now. and monte kiffin can outmaneuver any offensive coordinator right now.
so give coach reid a few more games. new england is next... a game of two wounded animals. both locker room psyches are incredibly fragile right now, and they need to BELIEVE they can beat anyone on the filed (see: bucs). therefore, i predict whoever loses that game will be 8-8 by season's end.
by the way, no matter what people say, mobile quarterbacks will only take you so far in the playoffs. the only mobile quarterback to bee super-bowl worthy was steve young, and man did he have a great supporting staff around him.
even elway didn't win the super bowl until his last two years, when he was much more under control and stationary (though i still remember jumping and screaming when he made that clutch run against green bay towards the end of the game). mobile quarterbacks will sell tickets, win crazy games, etc., but they end up having to win games for the entire team (either they take too much on themselves, or the rest of the team just expects the qb to win the game in the end), and that just will not work. i don't know if it ever will.

I remember this time last year New England was looking to have a MASSIVE year. They didn't even make the playoffs. This isn't to say Tampa Bay isn't very good. They are very, very good but so was St. Louis a couple of years ago. If the NFL's about anything, it's parity. Which is a good thing for the rest of us.
I'm looking forward to this week's matchup between the Niners and the Rams. Go Niners!!

Hello? Anybody home? I liked Young as much as anybody but what about his predecessor?

um, i don't recall montana being "mobile." he would roll out of the pocket (that was part of the bill walsh offense -- some drop backs were really drop back lefts or drop back rights, and designed that way for the pocket to collapse around the backside. it might have looked like "out of the pocket," but the pocket actually was designed to move that way.
but he would never actually threaten to move upfield with it like a halfback or fullback would. that's what these "mobile quarterbacks" of today that everyone falls in love with like to do... not just roll out, but take it upfield, lower the head, become a running back.* that is what i am using for my definition (and it's what a lot of the media also use as their yardstick). montana wasn't like that, because he didn't need to be.
rice, taylor, jones, rathman, craig, montana... oh, and defense that could stuff anyone.

Ha! Best? I'd say that they're among the worst behaved fans - second only to Raiders fans.
BTW, does the new stadium have a court room and tempoary jail just like the Vet did?
SDW, give it a few weeks and see how things shake out.
It was a very weird first week of games.
Miami lost to the Texans.
New England got shut out.
I'm no Eagles fan, but Andy Reid is a great coach and the team has tons of talent. He admitted that the play calling sucked last week.
Just remember that New England started out 0-2 a couple of years ago, then went on to win it all.
They always seem to win against the best teams and lose to the worst.
Face it.
I hate corporate/scholastic/college sports anyway...
/me backs away from the Philly fan.

You don't know me. Lumping me in with the rest of idiotic Philly sports fans is really flawed. When I call for Reid to be fired, it's a unique day. I don't believe in changing coaches like socks, or QB's for that matter.
People need time to develop. But Reid has had what...four years? There is no excuse for the lack of fundamentals and play calling we've seen the Eagles demonstrate in those years. It's been consistent, and it was being said last year as well.
The QBs themselves often end up mindf**king themselves too, like McNabb did last week. He wore cement shoes because he doesn't want to be labeled as a "running QB" which has a negative connotation, like it's a euphemism for "bad passer." Having said that, McNabb still hasn't improved his passing well enough. He improved a lot last year, but when he gets nervous or it's the first half, he's all over the place. He's not accurate, he isn't even consistently inaccurate (too high, too low, behind, in front, etc.) game to game. He floats long passes and can't put any touch on short ones. And you wonder why Reid was scared to death of passing into that Cover 2. McNabb has to drop the "running QB" stigma by passing better, not planting himself like a tree and hoping that the pocket is cooperating with him.
Remember Rob Johnson? The guy with the great arm and who could run, but never ran and couldn't get off a throw in time?

Good, I thought AI attracted a smarter crowd than that!
Philly fans that rant like that after every loss, every year are the ones I get a laugh from.
And to be fair, I know there are fans like that and Boo Birds in every city, it just seems to be more of an epidemic there.

It's painful to watch, you can almost see them looking at a running lane and then thinking, no, I have to find someone.
