    Pleeeesseee.

(PS: I still remember the Bingie stand at Macworld SF when Halo for Mac was announced. I'm still a little pissed. Nothing personal...)

Wanna know something funny? No... I shouldn't... oh hell... I'll tell you anyway...

I know somebody (not naming names or anything) who stole one of the two 'still art' binders from mac halo from that very booth.... wonder if that person put them up for sale if they would sell... (eyes ebay meaningfully)

The only problem with that statement is that Westlake is doing the port. So if you start talking smack about the code, you're talking smack about Westlake, a pretty solid mac porting house.

After talking to Lane Roathe, who used to head up one of the other major porting houses (and worked on Mac HL), he said you can have a port up and running in a week or two, but the real bitch is cleaning up all the code from the PC version.

Ooh, don't want to rag on westlake! They are cool. They did the Red Alert series. That ws OK. But when you port a game for Mac, you don't have to recode the entire thing, right? So if there were bugs in the origonal code, they may show up in the port as well.

Red Alert never came to the Mac. I waited.... and waited.... and followed... and waited.... and never got it. I ended up buying one of my first PCs just so I could net game RA with my friends.....

Westlake will do the best job they can, but they're still working from Gearbox's PC codebase. Don't expect miracles.

Well, Westlake will have convert all the pixel shaders from D3D to OpenGL. That will give them plenty of opportunity to optimize things as much as they can.

Westlake's status chart was updated yesterday to reflect Halo going beta.

Is that a friend or a "friend" ?

I thought I'd take a look at the PC version but it doesn't arrive here until the tenth. I wonder how my PCI Radeon will stand up to it? Not long unti the 9600XT is released...

Aren't moral reasons a common reason for vegerianism?

Doubtful, after beta testing comes final candidacy, which MacSoft probably won't take too long on. Then it's off to the CD stamper and that process should take up to a month.

It all depends on hoe playable of a beta the Mac version actually is.

Look for a November release at best.

Dagnabit! I was hoping I could use that $20 October discount at the Apple Store towards Halo. Maybe they'll let us pre-order it in time.

This raises a serious issue. Do you think Apple will even carry it? I'd be bitter as hell and be DARNED if I was gonna headline a M$ title. Every time office X makes front page I cringe...

You can pre-order Age of Mythology from the Apple Store, so I'd imagine that as soon as Microsoft announces a ship date you'll be able to pre-order Halo as well.

Hardly conclusive evidence, but my Amazon.co.uk order has just been moved from 11 Oct to 14 Nov.

    They state on their site...

"This item will be released on 14 November, 2003. You may order it now and we will dispatch it to you when we receive it from our supplier. Please note that release dates are subject to change."

Odd that this isn't offered on their US site....

Never trust Amazon on release dates. They've been known to literally make them up out of thin air (as in, people have contacted the publishers of books listed on Amazon only to be told that the publisher didn't know when the book would come out!).

I've seen listings for soon-to-be-published books that I knew for a fact didn't even exist.

I'd wait for an announcement from MacPlay before getting my hopes up if I had any interest in the game...
