    Haha!!

Now I know why I have always preferred the 'Blue Widgets theme' for OSX, since it replaces the 3 colored widgets.. Im a bit homofobic!

Not that there's anything wrong with it... Study Links Homophobia with Homosexual Arousal

Back to the cursor, the blue & white one was nicer, no doubt, but the rainbow one is much, much better than the absolutely ghetto one they took from NeXT. How *that* ugly piece of crap managed to make it through the gauntlet of style over substance at Apple is right up there with UFOs and the Loch Ness Monster.

Yeah, I'd like to see the blue one too.. Actually now that I think about it, I think I have seen it.. I installed X when it first hit the shelves, as my brother's new G4 came with the install disk. He said he didn't want to use it and stuck with nine until I converted him..

Did the first release of X have the blue wheel? Or am I conjuring phantoms...

P.S, I'm sure there's a way to actually find the images that make the wheel animation.. Anyone know where they are?

It is part of CoreGraphics and requires some hacking with a hex editor to get to it. A guy wrote a program Blobber to replace it a while ago, but I believe it is now unsupported because Apple has made too many changes in CoreGraphics since Blobber's release for it to work.

    Oh.

I thought it would be easier than that. ("Show Package Contents/Contents/Resources") !!

Never mind. Maybe I'll partition one of my drives and install original X someday, just for old times' sake, and to dig around! (And to see what the performance that I lived with for nearly a year was really like!!)

Brad: There was Blobber, but there still is MightyMouse. I don't like it because it's a 'haxie' from Unsanity, but to each his own.

When I clicked on this link and saw that spinning beachball, I shuddered

I hate that thing, what a suck

I hate it because whenever it appears that's usually a sign for "go make yourself something to eat, this'll be a while"

and also, for a progress wheel it does a terrible job telling you how far the task has progressed.

That's because you misunderstand its purpose. It is not there to indicate any progress.

The spinning cursor appears when the app over which it is hovering has stalled and is not accepting any input from the system. In some cases this means the app is frozen or crashed; in others it just means that it is very busy processing something. The system really has no way of differentiating these two cases because they appear exactly the same.

In my opinion they just dont fit into the Aqua theme.. Replacing them with blue widgets made the entire system look way better!
