I personnally like TextEdit with w3c's validation services. It works great for me, though I haven't tested any of my pages in IE.

this is sad but true. i hate working on a page that someone else started in DreamWeaver (which i like to call DreamOnWeaver) or GoLive (which i like to go GoEvil). I mean DW is still adding frickin height tags in table cells - it truely wastes much more time that it is supposed to save, particularly if you need to add some dynamic code to the page. i don't want to sound elitist but the best way to do create a site is in xhtml with a text html edidor and some photoshop. you will really know whats going on with your site and will know how to fix it and make it look exactly like you want it if you understand the standards behind the page. oreilly has a couple nice xhtml/css books.

DreamWeaver is a pretty good HTML editor... ya ya I know... but MacroM stinks! DW doesn't. Older versions are best. Or learn HTML... it's so good to do so. Another good editor is Mozilla Composer. And finally Claris HomePage (oh!)

Yes, it's a Java based app, but performs without a glitch. It has fantastic Plug-Ins, can be fully customized, and is a true IDE environment. You can edit full java classes with it, while still doing html, php, perl, etc ... hope this helps

There is a .dmg file for MacOSX
