Switchers, why did you make the switch?

I'm a new switcher and I'm curious as to why others have made the choice.

None of the above, really. It was the UI of Mac OS X that pushed me over the edge, and its associated applications. I don't think Windows is bad, per se, and I still use it from time to time, but Mac OS X is simply superior in usability. Not to mention that it's just more "fun," if that's a tangible.

Pretty much all of the above, actually.

The same thing that Steve said two posts above.

Of course, I had also been a Classic Mac OS user for some fifteen or sixteen years, but Classic was a dead-end road. If not for Mac OS X, I would have definitely jumped ship, as would many other users, I believe.

I was hoping the iPod answer would get a hit

I'm under the "terrible software Microsoft ..." category but that was years ago so I wont vote.

I picked terrible software from Micrososft, but I wanted to pick Microsoft's unethical business practices too.

    My vote was Other:

I started with an iPod and then the whole blaster worm hit and I got tired of using Windows for 12 years and still have such a catastrophic breakdown of the OS, you figure microsoft would have gotten it right by now and would spend more time on this. Dont get me wrong other microsoft products have been pretty great expect their OS.

I voted for the crappy Microsoft software one, but it was really a combination of all of the above.

Everything with mac just seems to work. Although you have to make sure whats compatible with your computer before ou buy it once you get it home and plug it in- it just works. No drivers, no software, nothing.

    IT JUST WORKS!

I liked the stability of Unix and the friendly UI. And I just couldn't pass up the fact that everything "just worked"

I just want a reliable, high quality computer that isn't prone to getting viruses.

Please, the M$ is unethical is a little much. True, there have been some ruthless decisions. These come from all corporations from time to time. But theres lots of good people working there too. That said, lets hope they get their butt kicked

Edit: I'm still saving up to get my first Mac.

It's beyond "a little much." MS uses its huge marketshare and huge amount of cash (RE: its monopolistic powers) to kill off competition. For example, there was a small time company that made what is now called FrontPage. MS bought the product, ate the company, killed off its employees, and now sells frontpage. They've done this to other small businesses too. They go beyond what most corporations do; Atleast beyond what most ethical companies would do.

Yeah, You're right. They need a little humility. I remember about 5 years ago hearing a story about how they tried to buy out some company that made sports games. After the owner refused to sell, Microsoft alegedly used the contacts it had made in the negotiation to go in and steal away all the employees.

I guess when I said that, I was just thinking of Bob the janitor when I said not everybody in the company is unethical. But they, as a coporate entity, do need a good lesson.

Totally! Just look at XBox- Microsoft is trying to buy its way into the gaming community. They are spending/loosing billions to try and gain marketshare so they can dominate when the next genneration consoles are released.
