both OS X and Windows have Human Interface guidelines:

Windows XP - Guidelines for Applications

introduction to the Aqua Human Interface Guidelines

I would have been happy for Apple to adopt more Windozey scroll bars, but I think they have been very careful to make it consistent with Windows in many other ways: preferences, installer, menu items, etc...

I'm with mook: It's a windows app done right, except for a few cosmetic differences that can be chalked up to branding.

iTunes for Windows actually follows the Windows UI guidelines better than most, if not all, of the Windows-only applications that I use daily. If they can't resist turning the scrollbar Aqua, that's a far smaller offense than most Windows apps commit.

I have a funny feeling that next quarter's results will be interesting indeed. 8)

This app really ROCKS!!! and the UI is LOT cleaner than what Microsoft could ever do till now with Windows or Media Player [including longhorn as of today]!!!

Oh btw, I have uninstalled Windows Media Player 9 today...after I used iTunes for an hour or so...And so did uninstall musicmatch[installed it before ephPod], winamp [good bye mate!!]...

I am really happy with the way everything works the way it is expected to be....

Oh, I guess I will want to boot my PC as soon as I buy the next release of iBook and use it for a while...

To sum up, I was a windows fanatic..., no apple switching ads changed my opinion... But, iPod did, what those loads of ads could not... I am happily joining the bandwagon of those lucky mac users... soon!!!

Thanks Steve and all those coders who developed this wonderful app...!!!

You're getting paid for this right????

No, I think there's something there - good well designed programs can show the light. I'm just so <sniff> happy that another lost soul has been redeemed!

This article will be of interest to all.

"At first glance, the software offers Apple's cool, classic brushed-steel look, which some Windows users may not appreciate."

iTunes' visualizations are similar to those available to Windows Media, "but you'd need to be an Apple fan to appreciate having the Apple logo at the core of the visualization," said a hardened PC user.

"Imagine the stink if Microsoft had their logo (or worse the face of Bill Gates) running through its software," they observed.

Well, I am a switcher from windows. at least at home. still use a win xp at work.

downloaded itunes as soon as it was available. what will have most windows users confused and annoyed me a little bit as well was the non conventional use of the maxi/mini buttons.

You expect the screen to maximise to the full screen size when you hit the maximise button and reduce back to the user resized size when hit again.

At least the Windows version is no worse in this respect than the Mac version - they are breaking the guidelines concerning the green "optimize" button on MacOS as well :-/

If I may be so bold as to break up this fighting amongst brothers for a second. I have a real problem with ITMS for windows. The software works great but every time I try to access the store (from Sweden) I get an error message saying that I have insufficient memory. But I have 512Mb RAM for God's sake!! That should be enough. What's wrong you think??

The message refers to *your* memory, not the computers memory. iTMS is US only for now and you're better off not looking in there and getting all bummed out.

Just kidding. That is odd though. 512 Mb should be plenty.

If you're using Norton Firewall, you have to disable it in order to get rid of the error message.

No prob! I struggled with it for a couple hours yesterday before finding the answer on Apple's discussion boards.
