Oh,

One more thing.. what computer are you coming from?

Are you upgrading or has it been a while since your last upgrade?

I only ask because if you are already on a weak machine, ask yourself what you need the extra MHz for? 600 is smoking if you're coming from "nothing" (or a machine that's years old)

Can you wait until MWTokyo? (less than 2 months)

No you're right.. I just see more hardware in the pipeline to equal cheaper pricing on that end. But I don't believe that to be the case either. Move along nothing to see here

Murbot.. I grew up smack dab in the middle of frozen hell (Winnipeg).. I feel for you.. HAHAHA I've had my deck door open all day! and it's 7pm already, hehehe.

I think you may be right about going for the 700, I may have read the orig. post wrong. I thought the $100 was a problem of budget.. if it isn't, Sockboy, go for the 700!

Dunno what i was thinking.. just have Ti on the brain

Aren't those instant Graemlins (it IS spelled Graemlins!?) annoying?

Thanks everyone. I think I will go for the 700. I have a 400Mz DV imac now. So it isn't THAT old. My MAIN reason for upgrading is to get the CDRW. I never use the DVD on my imac (I have a Pismo with DVD and use that a lot). To buy an external CDRW would cost a few hundred $$, so I thought I'd sell my 400mz (while it still has some resale value) and get a new machine. Maybe in 18 months I'll go for a flat panel imac. I have had good luck over the years buying very recently discontinued computers, so I thought I'd go for it again.

Thanks also for the heads up on the rising prices of RAM. I'll look into that.

And we did get dumped on here in Calgary. It has been snowing all day and is still coming down! <--- not embarrssed, but cold!

Are you still living in Winnipeg? Unfortunately, I am. When it went to -35º (with the windchill) a few days ago it finally started to fell like a proper Winnipeg winter.

Believe me, I wouldn't if I didn't have to. But I'm stuck here for the next six years thanks to university. But once that is over, I'm MOVING the hell away from here. This city has the most messed up weather, winters are brutally cold and summers are disgustingly hot. Messed up little chunk of Canada here. Plus we're the murder capitol of the country. Yay for us.

sorry to hear about that weather and wind chill....i may live off a mountain at 6000 feet, but i'm quite a bit south of canada....today (actually night--it was about 6:30 pm), it was too warm to wear my coat when i went to pick up my daughter....i would probably go insane if i lived in northern canada (or drink heavily....)g

    Uh, sure EmAn.

[quote]No fuccking way, I'm from Calgary as well; talk about a small world. You looking to get that iMac from Westworld?? or My Mac Dealer?

One thing to consider if you're ever buying an LCD based computer (tower with an LCD, laptop), when you buy from London Drugs, they have a 15 day return policy. If you're not happy with the computer for any reason, just take it in and get a refund with no questions asked. I've done this myself.

That way, if you get stuck with a dead pixel, you can take it in for a refund, and grab one at another location and try again.

I might have done this with the new iMac, but LD is usually VERY slow at getting new products in. Christ, they don't even have freakin' iPods in stock yet...

Hehe, everyone at one point or another during a typical winter in Winterpeg (hardy har har) proclaims their love for this city to be gone and vows to move to the equator or something. Unfortunately, this city is like some sort of vacuum and hardly ANYONE makes it out.

Hey Ybot, I'm originally from The Pas.

Winnipeg is like a paradise in comparison.

Oh God, The Pas! How cruel and unusual for you to have to live there. A friend of mine grew up in Thompson and she always comments about how 'short' our near-6-month winters are, lol! Poor frozen Manitobans from the north.
