Maybe. But I know enough of Nietszche's to know his writings are a rejection of Judeo/Christian ideas. Thus it can also be described as a religion of resentment. The resentment, in this case, directed against Judaism/Christianity.

    DMBand006, nice Family Guy quote!

Mine: "Peter, I'm your father. I love you, but I still don't like you." roughly. The serious side of Family Guy.

perhaps the Tao is not infallible?! and perhaps Nietszche is right . . . even Eastern religions are religions of ressentement . . . much more mature than the West's religions but still vieled denial of Life?!?!?"

ummmm...any chance you could support this nonsense? How is this saying "thinly veiled blame"? And, even if it is (which I grant one could try and argue, although I don't buy it), how does that prove the Tao is not infallible? And where does the Tao claim to be infallible? It may, but I don't recall that from my reading of it (although I confess that was a few years ago).

Basically, your string of sentences seem to be unrelated to each other (or at minimum do not support each other in any logical chain). Since you are willing to insult others for their supposed lack of knowledge about philosophy (and, amusingly, suggest their age somehow precludes them from knowledge about it), why don't you tell us a little about your training, where you got your degree, etc.

Well, if that is an example of his philisophical prowess, I don't think he has much to offer on the subject.

P.S. (my own credentials are thin as well - I minored in Philosophy as an undergrad, and it is a hobby of mine these days, although I mostly concern myself with Philosophy of Science - Popper, Kitcher, that kinda stuff).

He is well read. I'm not sure how much time he now has to give all this serious thought. Being distracted with the baby and all..

pfflam has a graduate degree and teaches art criticism and that sort of thing.

In fact, we could probably fill up this thread with pfflam quotes. But we'd have to do something about that spelling.

    Is the degree in Philosophy?

Just curious - of course, I recognize I am probably putting too much stock in one post, but it didn't seem to show much depth as far as understanding philosophy.

Art criticism is closer to philosophy than my own degree (Oceanography), though, and my last philosoph class was in grad school, so it has been a while since I had formal training, so I am sure I am rusty as well.

Thanks hmurchison, that was extremely relevent for an unmoderated list I'm on that is recovering from a nasty flame war.

What are you talking about? Really.

You know there's one thing that always holds true for folks that get all high and mighty about themselves and nietszche: they tend to be the dimmest of philosophy students and looking for something that fulfills their mystical childhood fantasy of philosophy.

I've got 4 or 5 essays I've written on nietszche sitting on this very computer's HD and you know what I think of him? ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

And from what I've seen elsewhere, pfflam knows his shit.
