Scavenger, iTunes plays shoutcast streams too. Learn before you criticize.

    -p

ps - I use windows on a regular basis and well enough to know its shortcomings. I'd say I'm pretty damn fluent in Windows because I need to use it from time to time and because I'm the only computer geek in my family. I HAVE to know it to keep the rest of my unenlightened family able to work. In fact, I'm running W2k right now (on my Powerbook). Don't assume that because we say you're wrong we don't know about Windows.

I never said iTunes couldn't play a shoutcast stream, the ablity to stream with shoutcast requires winamp.

Take it to Apple. We are not decision makers, nor reps for the computer company that we prefer.

This is an Apple support, rumor and fantasy board.

As for Windows and Windows' apps based computers, they have their upsides, but their downsides are enough to turn us off of them as our machine of choice.

Get a grip, if you want an argument go talk politics in AO.

My view is that you are a reluctant purchaser of an ibook, I really don't think what an ibook does is what you need, you want price and specs. Well we want less headaches and specs. So at least we have that in common.

Hopefully if you do get that ibook you'll be happy with it, I don't think you will. But I love mine and I'm never buying a Windows based machine ever again.

It's main selling point is the fact that I would be paying 300 dollars for the last rev of a iBook G3.

so just listen to the facts. iTunes is a good example of what the mac is like. if you consider to buy an apple take this for what it's worth. there's no winamp for mac. so - aside from the fact that i believe that iTunes helps me manage my music library way better than winamp could ever do - you have to accept that if you are on the mac, you'll have to take iTunes... nobody cares if there's another software out there for another system which could do this or that. it's like beeing a cat that has to listen to a fish which is talking about how great its fish-food is all day long. the cat couldn't care less...

So I came here to read up about apple and to learn what its all about. So what do I find, all these threads that proclaim apple the greatest and how Windows is so completely evil and how its so insecure and all that, and how it needs to die. I felt that this was a gross misrepresentation, and very biased by the fact I've seen some people say they've never even used a Windows Box. So I meerly am trying to give a more accurate view of what it really is, and to get rid of the misconceptions.

i thought you are here to read about what you can do with an apple? why do you change your mind and are now trying to convince us how windows isn't evil? this won't help you out will it?

I try to point out how the iPod has a competitor from Dell that is very similar and less cost, and I get yelled at becuase its not as elegant as apples or something to that nature.

sorry, but i believe the way of interacting with an iPod is just perfect. why should i consider buying a cheaper Dell when this point is the reason for me buying a mp3-player? again - how does this help you out on your way to find out what you can do with an apple?

...which we don't want to hear. if we would want to hear something like that we'll go to a windows-forum and just ask... again: are you here because you want to convince us or because you want to learn what you can do with a mac? i thought you said you are here because of the latter...???

I have only received a small amount of constructive critism from a few people, others only say its a windows program it sucks, it doesn't have this cool thing call smart playlists so it sucks, or comments to that nature.

so what? i use smart playlists all the time.i think this alone would be a good reason to use a special mp3-app. if this is the way i think you will have to accept me saying that all other apps suck because they don't have this feature... or am i wrong? this is me using my right to say what i think... again: you're here to hear what is great about the mac and why you could probably use it for some tasks. don't care about the comment that someone thinks that a windows app sucks - just care about the comment that iTunes has smart playlists and you'll be helped out...!

Also, to make one comment about that rendezvous streaming, I say is shoutcast. 50k+ users online using it with almost 5k+ servers that shoutcast.com knows about it. Its scalable to any application be it a home lan or the internet.

again: .... etc - you know what i'm going to say

so: is the apps and the os enough for you to make a decision whether to buy an iBook or not? if not that's sad for you but it's ok for us - if you've everything you need on a windows pc just vote for a windows laptop. and accept that we won't - because of some things we love about mac-products and some things we hate about windows-products...

    just stay cool -that's life

    Jes' guys.

I think everyone - whether they prefer Win.dows or 'X, Sony-Dell-OEM or Apple - should be encouraged to freely share their thoughts and experiences with comptech on AI. No-one here should feel that they must conform to any perceived right or wrong.

    \

I'm new to Macs. I think I will be enthusiastic about them forever - like nothing else you can buy in a shop. But I don't want to be sweet-talked about them. I don't want people to avoid their faults and quirks. Only honest discussion leads to innovation and to people finding out what they really like and want. In the same vein I don't want non Mac-users to blindly champion Microsoft and PC manufacturers.

    \

Condemning anything or anyone out if prejudice is silly. What use are these labels that are being banded about?

Sure, lets have enthusiasm about future releases. Lets praise the virtues of Apple's products. But lets also be constructive and fair in our criticisms. A little tolerance for people who think differently?

One bart station in SF CA had iPod ads everywhere. Every wall had one, generally several. In the train-waiting area, there was only about 1/5th of an iPod ad's space, maybe less, maybe more.

I've seen the ads all over Montreal. Are they working? Who knows. But as a nice sign I was in the McGill computer store the other day and their display case that is usually full of iPods was down to just a couple. Also, I was in CompuSmart an noticed specialised iPod display case with place for test iPods and a bunch of hype on the panels. Nice to see, though it wasn't set up yet.
