No doubt Alex. Is the 28 track Sam Cooke CD a Best Hits album? I'm interested in that.
It's a sort of best of, but no live stuff,( which I'm going to splashing cash on tomorrow thanks to Chinney ). It's called Sam Cooke- The Man And His Music, on RCA. Runs from Touch the hem of his garment to A change is gonna come, utterly gorgeous, vibrant, soulful music. Also has a picture of Sam on the back wearing the greatest jacket I've ever coveted.
I can't be arsed into making a list at the moment. But I know Dolores O'Riordan would be in there somewhere. Along with some of the other names mentioned above.
Well, Domingo can sing in a number of languages and doesn't need a hoist to get him on stage, but Pavarotti's Italian is probably a bit smoother.
As for a response to the rest of your list, I'm going to have to say that it's MINOR LEAGUE. King Diamond. Seriously. (Of course, you might actually enjoy "Mercyful Fate" and not take it at comedic value)

Well, having inspired a splash into the cash - I am sure some record exec somewhere is thanking me - I am curious to know if you like it.
Incidentally, the other album that I was referring to, but did not name (with the incredible long, live version of "Nearer to Thee") is the boxed set "Sam Cooke and the Proclaimers - The Complete Specialty Recordings". Some great stuff on it, but it also suffers from the problem of a lot of boxed sets: they really want to include everything: mutiple versions of the same song, some marginal material, and even some flubbed takes. Interesting historically, but it makes for annoying listening sometimes. But of course, all you have to do is arrange your own edited version on iTunes.

Does no one appreciate the range of Maynard? MG, are you people blind?
The list could go on, I'm also impressed by the lead vocalist of System of a Down.
